| Post subject: Shanghai - Phuket |
Hi,
as there are no direct flights anymore to Phuket, it seems it becomes a full day trip. When I check flight connections, the earliest arrival is 9.30pm and for this connection you leave SH in the morning.
Has anybody gone to Phuket recently with a more convenient travel schedule? I already consider going to HK, Bankok or Kuala Lumpur, stay one night in an airport hotel and then fly the next morning.
Trip is scheduled for early december.

Are you sure there's aren't direct flights? Surely if you fly to Bangkok there are flights to Phuket every hour so there can't possibly be such a long stopover or am I wrong? |

I went there in Sept and there was no directs out of Shanghai, on ANY airline. I searched high and low, and was prepared to pay a premium just to avoid a layover.
Whatever Huaidan found was something special. I flew Thai Airlines finally, and they do not even go direct into Phuket out of Shanghai. Most likely you will need to connect any of the cities you listed.
When you do your online flight search, short by total time. That will at least let you see the shortest total flights.
I connected in Bancock and had a total flight time of approx 7 hours, including short layover in Bancock. Into Phuket around midnite. I recommend you go into the Thai air office, and see what they have. They offer big discounts on airfare, if you buy even a single night in one of their select hotels. The hotel list is long, and chances are you will stay in one of those places anyway. That night will be higher then any you book online, but the flight savings far surpasses.
Weather should be getting good! |

Shanghai Airlines operates a nonstop tour charter flight between Pudong and Phuket. It's not a daily though. You have to call Shanghai Airlines or tour companies to book it. Costs about 3500 for a roundtrip. |

^ But read the Air Asia luggage allowance and check in restrictions carefully (One hour before mandatory)
Not a bad airline, but picky about such things.
Usually late, BTW.
And paying the extra baht for the preboarding is highly recommended.....The open boarding can be a bit of a food fight at times.... |
