Foreigners in Shanghai tend to get caught up in the daily grind of living and working within the city limits. As much as we enjoy Shanghai, now and then a break is needed from the fast paced life of the city. Maple Xu gives us a local’s perspective of the Expo.
Guest blogger Maple Xu of insideoutchina.com recounts her unique 3-day experience at the Expo through the eyes of a local. For maps, event listings and photos of the Expo, visit our page here.
Before the Shanghai Expo began, a friend and I made different predications on which month would be the most crowded. She said May, because it'd start with the three-day labor-day holiday period. I said June, because everyone would think the same way my friend did and thus try to avoid May. I was unfortunately right, but because of a chance circumstance, I myself ended up going there in the peak month.
I knew this would be Hell before I even signed up. Where else could I be? Lying on the bottom bunk of 30 beds stacked two up in three rows, surrounded by coughing, wheezing, spitting chain smokers on a long distance bus to the edge of China's Western frontier, Xinjiang.

China's premier luxury lifestyle show is taking place over the Easter weekend from 2nd - 4th April, 2010, combining private jets, yachts and mega yachts, luxury real estate and lifestyle products, showcasing the finest brands the world has to offer. Guests staying at Mandarin Oriental, Sanya over this period can enjoy exclusive, complimentary access to the event.
With the intensity of the Expo opening weekend rising each day, I thought it'd be best to beat the crowds and escape whilst I still could before the six month tourist ridden chaos began.

Indeed what a fast-moving beast it is. The speed of the rise is your first clue of danger because real estate markets by their nature do not move fast. A home is NOT a casino craps table! Here's another story of a recent visit to one of Sanya's very well done new property developments along the Sanya river area called San Yong Milky Way:
