"Economists report that a college education adds many thousands of dollars to a man's lifetime income--which he then spends sending his son to college."

    Bill Vaughan

Joking aside, there is more than enough evidence that shows graduating from university substantially increases one's lifetime earning potential. When the time comes for your child to attend university, most would like to have the resources to afford their child's school of choice, regardless of where they are accepted or what financial aid is offered.

At the same time, the cost for a university education is high and continues to rise faster than general inflation. In 2010, Ivy League schools in the USA will cost just under $50,000 a year. With an escalating price tag, this goal requires serious planning. There are too many pieces in the puzzle to offer a plan or strategy that fits every family; however, here are a few essential things to consider when deciding how to approach this goal.

As the Chinese economy continues to boom, an increasing number of university business students, both Chinese and foreign, are opting to seek a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Universities within China to increase their knowledge beyond the bachelor’s degree level.

  • As China has risen to global economic prominence, many of its young people have earned their undergraduate and advanced degrees at universities in the United States, Europe and Japan. Now the Chinese government is taking the first steps toward making its own schools a magnet for the rest of the world.

  • MBA in China: The New Trend 2009-12-18 15:43

Given the severity of the global financial downturn, many would still argue that the Chinese economy will be a dominating force well into the future. As such, an increasing number of Western business students are getting their MBA's in China, not only to increase their knowledge of this dynamic economy, but also to expand the marketability of their skills, particularly amongst multi-national firms.

  • It’s enrolment time – and students are settling into new routines on undergraduate programmes all over the world. Choosing the right place for each individual is always a tough decision especially if the familiy or individual is located overseas.

  • There are around 50 EMBA programmes in Mainland, graduating 6000 alumni every year. Three courters are programmes delivered in Chinese language (including classes taught in English than translated in Chinese) and one courter is programmes delivered in English. 90% of students are enrolling in Chinese EMBA programmes and only 10% are in English ones. Therefore, English-language EMBA programmes are playing in a niche market in China.

  • "In China, life has not been easy, but I'm willing to accept the challenge."
    - Patricia Enzmann, MBA student, Cheung Kong GSB.

Before joining Cheung Kong GSB's one year MBA program, Patricia Enzmann spent six years working for Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) in Switzerland, London, and Luxembourg. She got her start by enrolling in a UBS trainee program shortly after obtaining her Master of Science degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of Bern. Although she had no prior experience in the financial industry, Enzmann bravely accepted the challenge and was determined to make the most out of this opportunity. During her training period, she received a comprehensive education in finance and financial marketing, and through her diligence and hard work, was eventually hired by the bank.
