Mothercare China is opening its 3rd store in Skymall - Xinzhuang, Shanghai in early September. This will be its 2nd store in Shanghai, with it’s first located on the Huai Hai Road. Mothercare China also has a store in Solana, Beijing.
The British brand opened its first store in China in July 2008, and expects to build a national presence across China including stores in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Suzhou.
Mothercare PLC has a global presence in 52 countries with nearly 1,000 stores; this includes its Early Learning Centre store network. The store openings in China has boosted Mothercare’s presence in the Asian region where it already has lots of stores in India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Mothercare also has a sourcing office based in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
About the brand
Mothercare is a specialist retailer of products for mothers-to-be, babies and children up to the age of eight. Mothercare opened its first store in 1961 in Surrey. Initially the business focused on pushchairs, nursery furniture and maternity clothing, but it subsequently expanded its range to include clothing for children up to the age of five and later up to the age of eight. It now offers a wide range of maternity and children's clothing, furniture and home furnishings, bedding, feeding, bathing, travel equipment and toys through its retail operations in the United Kingdom, and also operates internationally through franchises in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Far East under the 'Mothercare' brand name.
