The New ShanghaiExpat is now here….so what’s NEW??
Now that we have finally reached the stage to launch (again), you may be asking what the big deal is with the new site. Sure it looks different, more colourful and modern, but what else you might be asking? Well the new things do not stop at being cosmetic, and here is a list of the new things you can do on the newsite to become more involved on ShanghaiExpat!
First things first, if you are an existing member of the old ShanghaiExpat network, to login to the new site you will need to login via the reactivate your account link in the top right hand corner of the homepage. If you're not a member already then why not join? Membership is free and allows you to do a whole host of things.
Get fully interacted with the ShanghaiExpat social network
We at ShanghaiExpat feel like we are here for the community and want to support all our members the best way we can. Even though we hold events such as the Wednesday Mixer , Weekend Coffee Meetings and the Tasty Tuesday Dinner, it is often difficult to stay in touch with the people you meet and organize new events, or even meet up for a random coffee or lunch.
The new site changes all this, and now allows us to interact with all our members, our members to interact with us, and most importantly, interact with EACH OTHER. Having been annoyed by not being able to access things like Facebook and Myspace to keep in contact with new people you may meet whilst living in Shanghai, we at ShanghaiExpat have now made things that little bit easier for you!
As well as having all the regular privileges of the old ShanghaiExpat, members will now also be able to do the following.
Your Own Personal Home Page
| Profile: | All members will now be given a profile page. Add snapshots, information and all the jazz to your profile for your friends to see. The Chinese have Kaixing Wang, we expats use Facebook. Now that’s not available, why not use ShanghaiExpat? |
| Friends: | Add friends to your network list to keep in touch with people you meet in Shanghai and on ShanghaiExpat. |
| Inbox: | Send personal messages to anyone on the ShanghaiExpat network list. |
| My Contribution: | Edit any posts/ events/ forums/ coupons you have submitted on ShanghaiExpat making it easier to update any hot topics. |
| Add Listings: | Found a great new underground club? Tasted the best cheesecake ever?? Then share the experience with your fellow expats and list the place on our Yellow Page directory. You'll be able to leave a short comment on the place and what it offers, place it on a map, as well as offering a personal star rating. |
| Add Events: | Submit new events that you think other members and other ShanghaiExpat users will benefit from. |
| Add Discounts: | Whether you're a small café, or a 5 star hotel, now all have the chance to help promote their places to our community. If you're offering a great deal then share it with everyone on ShanghaiExpat. |
Groups
The new groups function is one of the best places to meet new people, and join discussions about topics and subjects that you may share in common with other members. Any member can create a new group about any topic they wish; with the choice of it being open to the public, or to have it as a private group with specially selected members and invitation only. Either way, it’s a powerful contact tool to have should you want to create weekly social events such as table tennis, or dancing classes. Every group has access to a series of applications such as Photo Gallery, Blog, and Wiki to help customize their group page.
Please read the guidelines for the terms and conditions of the groups.
Upgrades
| Homepage: | The homepage and all the links and tabs on the website have been redesigned for easier access and user friendliness. |
| Channels: | The Channels page has become more relevant and accessible. Each channel will act as a collecting place for particular topic information highlighted by the articles. |
| Forum: | The forum has been upgraded to withstand a higher level capacity, and better features all round. |
All this and much much more is now available on the ALL NEW ShanghaiExpat. The question is, are you still going to stand on the sidelines? Or are you ready to become fully integrated into the community?
Either way, we hope you enjoy the new site.
