Shanghai City Attracts Foreigners to Live

Shanghai as one of fast economic growth metropolis city in China, attracts more and more foreigners to live and work here.

The registered number of foreigners living in Shanghai has been rapidly rising in recent years. There are more than 152 thousand foreigners stay in Shanghai as the end of 2008, 12.5% increased from 133 thousand foreigners in Shanghai in 2007, according to yearly statistics from Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Foreigner in Shanghai mostly comes from Japan, South Korea, the United States, Singapore and France. According to the statistics, nearly 33,500 Japanese are living in Shanghai as the end of last year, following by 22,736 foreigners in Shanghai from Korea, 21,730 foreigners come from the United States, 7,717 Singaporean and 7,426 French in the City. There are also have foreigner here who came from Germany, Britain, Canada, Australia and other countries all over the worlds.

In addition to the foreigners who work at foreign-funded enterprises and embassy, student abroad account for mostly proportion with nearly 14,273 students in Shanghai comes from overseas countries as the end of 2008, 8.1% increased from 13,121 students abroad in Shanghai in 2007, according to the statistics. Of them, 9,748 students with 31.7% come from Asia countries, following by 2,479 European students and 949 North America students who were studying in Shanghai in 2008.

Foreigners enjoy themselves in convenient and comfortable living and working environment in the City. For example, in Gubei area which is in Changning district, the west part of Shanghai, Japanese and Korean expatriates prefer to live. There are series of club and restaurant in Japan and Korea style. And they also can find their local food in supermarket there. Xintiandi area in Shanghai is other one of place which foreigners love. The old sty architectures with long history in the centre of city attract more foreigners to get together and chatting at the roadside coffee bar. Moreover, Lujiazui is also one of the most popular areas for foreigners in Shanghai. It can be said as the most modernist area in Shanghai with many skyscrapers and shopping mall there. There are many buildings and apartment in west style to catch your eyes.
