Chinese MacGyver Uses Condom To Remove Bottle Cap From Patient
They might go hand-in-hand at most house parties, but condoms and beer seem unlikely bedfellows in the surgical ward. That was not the case at a hospital in Jiangsu, where a surgeon used a condom on a reveler who accidentally ingested a beer bottle cap during a heavy night of boozing.
After being admitted into A&E at Lianyungang First People's Hospital in Jiangsu last Friday, the patient, named Mr. Liu, was told to wait 6-8 hours until he had an empty stomach and that they would operate on him in the morning. Realizing that using surgical tongs could cause injury due to the teeth encircling the cap, they went with obvious Plan B: a prophylactic. The logic was that a condom wouldn't catch on anything on the way out. Here's hoping it wasn't used ("removed the cap, but got the clap").
Although the use of a condom for a surgical procedure is a little questionable (surely there are other rubber tools that could do the trick...), the cap was removed successfully without any injury to the patient. And now Mr. Liu can be one of the few straight guys outside prison to say that he's had a condom inside him.
"Quick doc! What've you got in your pockets that we can use to pull it out with?"
