How to Take Taxis in Shanghai
Shanghai's taxis are ubiquitous; sometimes it feels like every other car is a bus or a taxi. They are also well regulated. If you avoid fake cabs you are unlikely to encounter problems.
Registered taxis belong to one of Shanghai's taxi companies. All registered taxis go by meter, have a top light on top of the taxi, and have a plastic shield around the driver to protect him from robbery.
Fake or black taxis do a convincing impression of regular taxis, from the taxi light to the meter. They are common at train stations and late at night around bars and clubs.
