Visas, Taxes, and Legalities - extend my resident permit kaboo - Sep 17, 2004 - 06:08 PM Post subject: extend my resident permit
hello,
i got a X-Visa already expired but have a resident permit valid until 30 of september. What do you guys advice me to do if i want to stay in Shanghai and maybe rent an appartment for one or two month more.
I heard that the agencies only let you rent appartment for only 6 months.
Is that true ? What do you think is the best solution ? I was student so i got all this from the school but now just want to stay here a coupes of months.
Otherwise is there any way to extend my resident permit without applying school or have a letter from a company. I'm not gonna find a job here.
Thanks for your help hongbozi - Sep 17, 2004 - 11:03 PM Post subject:
When you say, "I'm not gonna find a job here" do you mean that you don't want a job, or that you doubt that you can get a job? I noticed that you hail from France, if you can put up with teaching English (which is what I do), you could still find schools that are willing to take on expats as English teachers, whether they are native speakers of English or not.
I take it you went to school in Shanghai, but just in case you or any readers are moving to Shanghai from another city and need to renew your foreigner's residence permit, make sure that you get the local police station to stamp "immigrated" (in Chinese, of course) on your existing permit, otherwise the Shanghai PSB won't renew your permit. I had to take an 8-hour train ride back to my former place of employment just to undergo a 5 minute process of getting my permit stamped.
