Any support groups or gatherings for expat wives in Pudong? I'm from Singapore, new to Shanghai.

Hi Newbebe,
You can try the Community Centre : www.communitycenter.cn or look through this site for groups tht you may be able to join. The hard copy of this magazine is available at most of the top hotels http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/en/shanghai. There is also a Ladies Friedship group that meets for lunch organised by carol. Just look through some of the posts.

What I notice is that people tend to attract a like minded groups friends and kind of act as a support group. Of course, its not quite as structured as some groups that are more oriented toward emotional support or therapy. There is also a lot of room here ( in Shanghai and especially through the board here ) for individuals to organize their own circle of contacts for whatever purpose. Some people have started the Young Expat Coffee meeting, the Ladies Friendship group, and more like it just by being willing to organize and invite other folks that might be interested in the same thing.

however, i think it's the minorities(women and youth)are talking now! for instance, the Wednesday at Malone's seems to be for guy-oriented bar-going type(no objections), and moms, working or not working, probably not able to go to the Saturday coffee meeting because of kids, so a kind of group for them will be formed which they have subjects in common.

One thing off this topic: I posted a question to you on the speed of this website, recently I found out the speed has been improved. Did you change ISP again? or did you use proxy server? or should I ask this question in another forum? Very Happy

Hi Newbebe, I'm from Singapore too! Will arrive in Shanghai soon with my husband and two young kids...

As Marydoll posted, there doesn't seem to be any support groups for expat wives/ moms in Pudong. I think it will be great if we start one ourselves!

How about meeting up on the 24th (Fri) or 25th (Sat) of June? In a shopping mall in Pudong or a picnic somewhere...em... is the weather too hot for that?

Pudong needs some kind of support group for women so hopefully we can get one started.

Is anyone planning to drop by the cafe before the 24th? Maybe we can make reservations under 'expat wives group' or something like that. If not, I'll call the cafe a week before the 24th to secure us some seats!

Also does everyone realise that the kids are finished school, so people with kids will have to bring them me included??????

Hi all... sorry for the late posting. Our next meeting will be at the Latina Green City Restaurant, Jingqiao, on 21 July (Thursday). It's a Brazilian barbeque food restaurant with a small play area for kids.

Location: inside the Green Sport Leisure Centre, directly opposite the entrance of Pines, The Market Place. The Green Sport Leisure Centre is at Bi Yun Road.

What you can do is take a taxi to Carrefour in Jinqiao. Then just walk over to the green glass building located next to it. If the cab driver drops you off at the Pizza Hut entrance, you will need to walk through the Carrefour building to reach the other exit where you should be able to see the Green Sport Leisure Centre. Hope the directions make sense!

We'll meet at 11.30am as usual and I'll try to make reservations for us.

I am a stay at home mom in Phoenix and am getting ready to move to Shanghai in December. I am actually going there in two weeks to pick a house and a school. I have two kids four and six. Both boys! Hallo everybody. I am a mother of two girls: 4 and 9 years old. We are eager to find friends here in Shanghai, Pudong. We are russian but can speak English. And it would be fine if my elder daughter found here a friend, a girl of her age to have a good time together and also to practice her English. The girl likes music, painting, roller-skating. May be the only problem is that she is rather shy. If there are some meetings for families in Pudong we will join them with great pleasure!

Hi pixel8, so far we have lunch meetings once or twice a month. Some moms bring their kids along, so the children do get to mingle somewhat. I guess you can sort of say "casual chit chat and exchange of information" happen at these gatherings. It's just a good way to meet up with other expat parents and make new friends... so that we have someone to turn to in times of stress here!

We have further meet ups apart from these, shopping for stuff, visiting places etc.

We'll probably have a Christmas lunch party sometime in the next two weeks. Details will be posted later. All are welcome to join us!

Yes, it is very healthy to meet new people as well as make new friends. I do hope my wife & daughter will be able to click and mingle with the mummies and kids. I'm thinking that most here are home-makers? I do wish there would be more regular sessions in the future, especially playgroups for the kids to break free from the hotel prison we are in.

I've discovered this wonderful child-friendly restaurant at Times Square in Pudong. The restaurant has a small play area for toddlers/ young kids and looks really fun. Here's hoping the food will be good too!

Sorry for the late notice. Moms in Pudong meets on Thursday, 20th July at 12.30pm. Venue: Bonomi Cafe, 6 floor, Superbrand Mall, Pudong.

We will be discussing the setting up of playgroups for babies and toddlers who are not yet in school. Also on the agenda is a fund-raising project (probably a bazaar or flea market of sorts ) in September.

All are welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Just saw this site & boy am I excited about it. Me & my kids (3 yr & 10mth baby) will be relocated to SH in Oct/Nov & soon I'll become a stay at home mum....most probably staying in pudong.

Do you still meet regularly? Can I be on your mailing list so that I can join in the activities when we arrived?

Hi aimecolette, we'll probably have another gathering around mid-August. At the present moment, we meet mainly in Pudong, as most of the moms are residing in this part of Shanghai. We do have some Puxi moms who join us ... we'll try to keep the venue close to the Pudong side of the bund so you won't have to travel too far!

Moony, we're trying to get our website going, (www.momsinpudong.com) At the present moment, the website is still under construction but hopefully will be up within the next two weeks. We'll start a new mailing list then. PM me your email address and I'll definitely include it. We're also starting a babies/ toddlers playgroup in August, you and your baby are welcome to join us when your family moves to Shanghai.

Hello, I'm so excited to see this message thread and have checked out the website. This is awesome!

We are relocating to Shanghai in Oct 2007 and will be staying in the PUDONG area. I have 4.5 year old boy and 1.5 year old girl, most likely I will be a stay home mommy. It'd be great to find a playgroup for them.
