Just in the middle of a great travel book by a guy called Colin Thubron, about his trips in China in the early 80s.

The guy is an extremely good writer, very sharp, very direct and pretty knowledgeable about what he is writing about.

Behing the Wall is the name of the book.

It is fascinating to see that some things in 20 years havent changed at all, while at the same time some of his observations today look like impossible to believe.

He has some interesting cynicism in him, which so far is very well distiled in the book, specially in the dialogues with people he meet, from cadres to schoolgirls.

This guy also wrote a number of other books that I plan to read too about Central Asia, Turkey and other trips.

It's refreshing to read an author that knows history, knows the language and WRITES WELL.

Anyway. Thought it would be useful for someone.

Cheers.

HC.
