Anyone know where I can get brazilian wax in shanghai? How much?

many places offer the service, including dragonfly and the portman spa. costs are about rmb200-240, playboy and brazilian.

Do you find that the removal of all hair enhances sex? Too many men have told me that it feels softer but strange. Kind of like are sleeping with a child. Not a good image.

Pretty sure we will see some contributions from Man, Rutuman, Fidel et al.......and then it will be down to the Pit.

each to her/his own. being a male i feel the need to trim down there as well. like a haircut but more personal and the ladies like it neat as well.

What's brazilian and playboy? Related to a-hole or just the pubes?
Magnolia - Apr 18, 2006 - 09:03 AM

a brazilian leaves a small landing strip in the center, a playboy removes all hair.

So, it's pubes then.

Thought I saw an episode of Sex and City, where they had to lift their legs for brazilian... thought it was a-hole related.
Magnolia - Apr 18, 2006 - 01:15 PM

actually, the leg lifting can happen with either...

Actually Magnolia, it's the opposite way round Wink
A Brazilian takes all off, while Playboy gives you a strip Laughing

I think lots of people out there are not very sure of waxing terminology, so here's the info:

What is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian wax is the full removal of hair in the bikini area as well as the buttocks area.

What is the Playboy wax?
The Playboy wax is very similar to the Brazilian wax, except we leave a small landing strip in the front area.

What is the Bikini wax?
The Bikini wax is the removal of the hair in bikini area and your inner thigh.

There was an article about this in the new City Weekend magazine! (just for your information!)

actually sunshine you have it the wrong way round, Magnolia was right the first time!

Really?? Cos I got the information from a waxing shop from the states!
bellabella - Apr 27, 2006 - 04:13 PM
Post subject:
well i wasn't sure so i googled it, and apparently a brazilian takes everything off on and under (if you know what i mean) and leaves a small strip on the top and a Playboy just takes everything off. but as we are in china it's probably best to find out how Dragonfly (or wherever you will go to get waxed) defines it
Magnolia - Apr 27, 2006 - 04:36 PM
Post subject:
I am pretty sure about the difference between a Brazilian and a Playboy but as bella suggested, it is best to see what terminology the individual shop uses. My waxing place in the US doesn't distinquish between the two but rather offers the Brazilian with the choice of a landing strip or not. Here, many places use both words.
Cynical - May 28, 2006 - 11:26 AM

So which style do you use, ladies? All gone or a landing strip left? Besides, I'd like to know whether all the ladies who left messages here have done the wax! Btw, does that hurt?

I prefer waxing to any other means of hair removal as it doesn't feel uncomfortable when the new hairs grow out and it's generally a more gradual process than when you use cream or shave. Waxing hurts, but it's a quick pain, if the beautician knows what she's doing, and the more often you go the fewer hairs you end up waxing at one time, so the pain is less.

hahaha, I'm brazilian, and I think no one here in Shanghai can do brazilian wax...we don't take all the hairs...and we dont let just a string...it's only that ours bikinis are more "sexies" and we dont like all that hair showing up...who likes anyway????But there is a brazilian woman who said she is able to do it, so if anyone wants, i can give her mail...bye...good luck!!
Magnolia - June 09, 2006 - 12:10 PM
Post subject:
if you don't take all the hairs and you don't leave a strip, then how is a brasilian wax defined in brazil? and don't say that it is just a wax (like chinese food in china is just called food).

to be honest, i've found two excellent waxers in shanghai... they pay even more attention than a some waxers i've known in other countries.

I lived in the South part of Brasil, and there we let a small triangle hair, just in the bikini shapes...But, Brasil is so big that maybe in some cities they take all hairs and in another ones they let a strip, who knows??? But the most brazilians women that I know have a small triangle shaped hair...I'm glad that you found good waxers here, I use to do at home, just like my nails...
Magnolia - June 09, 2006 - 09:14 PM
Post subject:
ahhhh... the triangle... that is the same as the strip, depending on the waxer. i find that it is more attractive than a maw hawk...

do it at home? ouch! with a capital O!

one is private and doesn't see clients she hasn't been introduced to.

I think it would be way better to try to wear it off instead of wax it off. More fun for sure'

OP, i've had three waxings done in shanghai to date. the first was at mandara spa at the jw marriot, and it was good, but rather expensive (think it was 350 rmb).

the next two times were at dragonfly, jing an location. again, effective hair removal and great service. i think they have one person at that location who specializes in waxing. about 100 rmb cheaper than mandara. i feel like trying a different spa next time - maybe apsara spa? it's priced similarly to dragonfly.

just a few more notes:
- in addition to waxing, they tweeze stray hairs that remain after waxing
- don't get yourself waxed just before your period! (if you are female that is) somehow it is more painful then...
- apparently tipping is not expected! i do wonder about this but have been giving a small tip anyway...

good luck!

There is this woman who turned one room in her apartment into a waxing salon and she does an amazing job. PM me for her number if interested. Also, her prices are slightly lower than the salons.

Apsara Spa and Diva Life do a much better job than Dragonfly for similar prices.

Hi Hi!

I will be relocating to shanghai soon and would like to find a place that does almost painless brazilian wax and quick too. The last few ones I tried in shanghai , a nail salon and 2 spas(wont mention name) took them almost 1hour!!
and it is much more painful here as well. that is so not acceptable coz back home they do for me in 15 min and is relatively painless in comparision.

I am so desperate that I am contemplating opening a wax salon franchise in shanghai. hahaha.

On a serious note, if i do start a wax salon , where is a good location with lotsa female expat crowd?

to pluck or not to pluck, that is the question.

nanjing road area or hongqiao... but really, anywhere that offers expertise services will survive. i would probably chose somewhere with a block of popular restaurants or bars.

one hour is ludacris! i don't think i've ever had one take longer than 15 minutes... but it felt like a few years at the hanoi hilton.

if you do open the biz, perhaps offering alternative services like threading would help.

best of luck to you!

Thanks!! I was thinking Xintiandi too but the rental must cost a bomb Surprised

xin tian di is too touristy and as you mentioned, the overhead costs won't justify the outlay. plus, waxing and food justou don't mesh. a few blocks away in a place where capital is put towards the enviornment/decor but within strolling distance to may work.
freedelia - Apr 29, 2008 - 02:56 PM
Post subject:
I would beg to differ, as I happen to know that at least during the week, the clients of spas and beauty salons are tai-tai's, and they make up 70 to 80 percent of the overall business. So I would say that Hong Qiao would be a great location, as a lot of families with kids live there and except for Dragonfly (horrible!!!!) there is no other place to get waxing services. If you are interested, please contact me as I might be interested in working with you...
Magnolia - May 04, 2008 - 11:25 AM

sorry... what are you differing on? please see above where hong qiao was recommended. it was xin tian di that was not.

That and the fact that they have no idea about waxing and they do an awful job (hair grows back fast, there a lot of hairs they cannot take off with wax and use tweezers, etc)...

I got my first wax in January when I went to visit the states. I got the landing strip(call it what you want) and I loved it. It was a bit painful at first with the waxing and then plucking. But ladies, your man will love it, if you know what I mean!

hi,
i have already written about this lady a couple of times, but still...

I can recommend you of the lady that does my waxing and eyebrows.

her name is Ortal and she is really proffesional!

she uses imported waxes and can uses different waxes to match your skin type.
also she has very good working techniques so even most delicate places (i.e brazilian.....) arent really painful..

if interested you can contact me by PM for Ortal's information.

good luck!
freedelia - June 21, 2008 - 10:44 AM

I don't think you should be posting her phone number on the website like this -- could get her some unwanted attention. I have already recommended Ortal to a lot of ppl but i think it is safer to just ask those interested to ask for her number privately...

I'd be interested in getting her number. Conversely, if you could PM me, I could send you my contact details to pass on to her. Either post an affirmative here or send me a PM asking for it. Thanks alot in advance!
kingkraw - Sep 05, 2008 - 05:36 PM

Nope. She doesn't do boyzilians. Sad
kingkraw - Sep 06, 2008 - 12:25 PM

Ok, I struck out on that one as she only does Brazilians for women, as do all the spas I have spoken to.

Does anyone know where a man can get a Brazilian waxing?

Brazilian waxing faces more controversy than other types of waxing. It can be a physically painful experience during and after waxing, which can become even more unpleasant if receiving cunnilingus from a bearded partner.
kingkraw - Sep 07, 2008 - 04:26 PM
Post subject:
Why do I do it? Because I prefer the way it looks and I have found that most women like it, too.

Oh, I found a place that does boyzilians in Shanghai:

Helen Nail Spa
819 Julu Rd, Jing An district
5403-7802

Very nice Filipina girl doing the waxing, speaks perfect English. A bit pricey: boyzilian and shoulders cost RMB710. Only game in town, though.
freedelia - Sep 07, 2008 - 07:29 PM
Post subject:
Magnolia, don't get me wrong, I am not saying go for the all natural look -- just saying that trimming and shaving parts of it is much better and much less painful -- and apparently a lot cheaper too Smile

And only talking about men -- cause their.... bits and parts are sensitive and wax is hot and also pulling the hair could not be good for that area. For girls -- no problem, i do it all the time and love it.
That_Chinese_Girl - Sep 07, 2008 - 07:43 PM
Post subject:
Yeah... I was curious about kingkraw's "boyzilian". Wouldn't that be unbearably painful?
kingkraw - Sep 07, 2008 - 10:09 PM
Post subject:
No doubt about it: it IS painful, especially the first couple of times. Not the wax itself but the pulling out of the hairs. But I have been doing it for a couple of years now with no problems affecting *ahem* performance. And I really do think it looks and feels much nicer. Not just for me, but for my girlfriend, too.
That_Chinese_Girl - Sep 07, 2008 - 10:13 PM
Post subject:
^ Does the hair grow back softer and slower like they do when we wax our legs? Wouldn't it be just as much fun (and less painful) if you asked your girlfriend to shave for you?
kingkraw - Sep 07, 2008 - 10:16 PM
Post subject:
Yes, much more slowly. And I think a bit softer.

I am actually single right now so there is no girlfriend to shave me. But even if there was a gf around, I don't think I'd want her to do that. I don't even like having someone else shave my face, much less that area: I would really hate to be nicked down there!
