Post subject: Destination Wedding in Shanghai
Hello All,

I came upon this site while researching destination wedding planning in Shanghai. I'm not an expat but my fiancé and I hope to be in the near future. That's part of the reason we're planning a destination wedding in Shanghai. We currently reside in New York although originally from San Francisco. My family is originally from Shanghai, although there's no one there now to help. My finance is Caucasian and will not be of help in this process. I'm trying to find information and recommendations on wedding planners (English speaking preferred), venues, vendors, or any information that will be helpful in planning a wedding in Shanghai remotely. Thank you in advance. Happy New Year!

Rie

Finance? Fiancé Hope this was just a typo and not a freudian slip...Wink Sorry had to get that out of the way otherwise...Smile

Most weddings in Shanghai are performances and they come across that way. Given this, most planners here who do "western" weddings cater to locals who want to feel like they had a western style wedding, as opposed to ACTUALLY giving them a real western styled wedding. Given that, if you are looking for a different kind of wedding, you may need to see if there are any wedding planners with more high-end experience so that your seemingly reasonable requests will not seem outrageous to them.

Good catch. Given that I was a psych major, I should be more conscious of my Freudian slips (although that was not an admission). Thanks for the insight. I'll probably have to rely on heavily on hotel event planners.

hi, i've been on this site before to look for wedding info in shanghai but didn't find too much. I'm planning my wedding in shanghai for may 08 and currently in nyc as well. Through a friend, I eventually found a wedding planner that I'm hoping to work with. Not sure what your budget is, but you can try contacting her. I'll send you her email through PM.

That's because the real wedding in Shanghai is when you go to the police station and register. The rest is just an act and a good way to get hong bao Very Happy

I'm pretty sure that if you visit your consulate, they have a few papers you can sign, and then you can go to the wedding registration office here in Shanghai and legally get married in shanghai.
