SAN FERMIN party 2008 @ La Verbena this Saturday!

Alter last year’s success this year “El Kiliki Mandarin” wishes to share with you once more its special Shanghai San Fermin celebration!

Date: Saturday, July 5th, 8:30pm onwards
Where: Spanish Restaurant La Verbena
(Pudong river, west Lujiazui Rd, No. 2967, E north Bing Jiang Dadao,
near International Convention Centre).

The same as previous years “El Kiliki Mandarin” will fill the party with Spanish music, typical Navarre “chistorra” and the best San Fermin celebration this side of the River! People attending the party must be dressed in WHITE, and El Kiliki Mandarin will provide the rest of the typical San Fermin attire (a red scarf or “panuelo” and a red sash or “faja”) at the restaurant’s entrance.

The tickets will be sold at the entrance for 250RMB (including dinner plus all you can drink in wine, sangria, beer and soft drinks).

Went to La Verbena for a wine lunch the other day. A lot of seafood, which i am not into, but everyone else said the food was great. New Chef in the past few weeks, so maybe some good things to come from them soon. Check it out.

Is this line really correct? Last orders 3 hours before the place closes, or do you mean no more food after 10:30?

The working hours are correct, the kitchen needs to take the last order at 22:30. But our bar is open till late! Smile

Even after receiving an 80% empty glass and then mentioning a reasonable desire to get a normal quantity of wine (no, not to the rim ... or straight out of the bottle), the previously 20% filled glass came back maybe 1/3 full. Wish I had no work the rest of the day and would have just sprung for a 1/2 of full bottle of hooch. Or, that La Verbena just upped the price and gave me a regular quantity per glass size as requested.

Local restaurant wait staff are almost expected to be clueless, but this particular La Verbena manager was equally clueless. Wink That won't stop me from going back, but I'll skip a glass of lunchtime vino or go straight to a full bottle.

we serve 5oz for glass of wine(25oz for bottle of wine),depend on the size of the glass you will feeling not enought, becauce the wine need breath also people enjoy the aroma of the vino.

This, unfortunately is so common with so many bars/restaurants in shanghai.

Cool ... A spanish bar in Shanghai!

I am flying out again tomorrow and will be in Shanghai certainly Saturday and Sunday night. I am going to try and persuade our contact there to take a trip down to the Bund and I will certainly look out for La Verbena Smile

Don't suppose you stock ice cold San Miguel do you?

Incidentally, what does Verbena translate to in English, I cannot work it out at all?

Well ... went down to search out La Verbena, the "Spanish" bar and restaurant.

No Spanish staff and not even one Spanish beer. Very dissapointing. Surely it cannot be too hard to get hold of San Miguel, they have it in Guangzhou!

The tapas also was at best, a nod towards the authentic.

A real shame I thought.

On the plus side, dinner later that night on the veranda at M on the Bund was superb Smile
