leaving Los angeles, america for trip to asia in sept.
Anyone have any hints on cheapest tickets available ?

Find a Chinese newspaper, flip to the ads, find the travel agency section - should be several dozen ads there. Call a bunch (helps if you speak Chinese, or have a friend who does), compare prices.
Chinese travel agents seem to be able to find dramatically better deals than sites like orbitz.com.
