Technology Issues - Shipping personal items from Los Angeles to Shanghai pepi - Nov 10, 2008 - 01:44 PM Post subject: Shipping personal items from Los Angeles to Shanghai
I am coming to live in Shanghai from LA in few months. I am planning to bring some of my books, VCR and few other items. What is the best way
of shipping personal items from LA to Shanghai ? Will my VCR work there
also ?

VCR?? really??? that is old school...
you will not find anything on tape here, this is DVD country (and cheap it is to buy those buggers).
besides that, no it will not work. usa is 110V/60Hz while china is 220V/50Hz. you will need a convertor which is a pain in the behind.

I have a combo DVD VCR, and I use VCR mainly for recording. So what can I use for recording TV programs on DVD ? Since electricity is different then I have to buy something
there instead

I’d get some quotes from your big local firms and also from these ones below and compare.
In regards to your VCR player, if it is a multi-system NTSC and PAL player it will play here. FYI, television programs are limited here to two local English channels and Satellite TV programs which generally have these kind of channels: Note sue if there’s programs on these that are of interest to you.
