About Food - Food fiber in Chinese food? Pendragon - June 30, 2009 - 03:43 AM Post subject: Food fiber in Chinese food?
I love Chinese food, but..
Being a North-Western European I need lots of food fiber for a normal digestion, back home I mostly get it from dark bread and unprocessed veggies. In China I just can't find enough food fibers in the usual food. Does anyone have some tips to save my stomach?

I think there is no problem to find a good variety here of fruit and vegetables.
You can get dark bread at the large supermarkets such as Carrefour or you can order directly from adenbrot.

They got decent dark bread in Cityshop as well.
Bonnie's link ain't real dark bread as we eat it back home. Those from the link are what we eat for breakfast on Sundays
In periods I bake my own bread. Brought a baking machine from home last time I went back.

Given the selection of veggies as compared to many places in the world, i'd say you are looking for fiber in the wrong places if you cant find it... Not as many grain based breads, I agree, but produce selection is pretty damned good, just different so you will need to experiment.

A quick & fast fix will be to dump plenty of vegetables in your instant noodles and dig heartily away. ;P

I think there's more fibre in a typical Chinese meal than most western meals. In England we just serve a token amount of soggy, overcooked vegetables with a huge piece of meat. Chinese have 1000s of different vegetables most of which you'll never see in Europe.

Enjoy some local corn, a ton more fibre than American cousins
For healthy food just steam them at home.
For arterial clogs tried the deepfried egg yolk coated versions ( places like Di Shui Dong)
