I have the cash, but I would rather pay it back direct out of my paycheck if possible. If the company says they need a lump sum payment then I will have to oblige.

I'll have to wait and hear what they say.

I agree to wait and hear what they say, but you should be a bit more proactive to get this resolved. Should also log each time you ask for an answer. This way if something does come up you can show management you've been pushing to resolve it but its their accounting office that has been dragging their feet.

Also, if I were in your position I would not present the 6 month payback option...pay it all back in one lump sum. Just get the whole mess cleared up once and for all.

you're all talking about responding in a moral and ethical way. you forget that the local finance department would rather save face than get the money back.

The head of the local finance department would be looking at a way of getting it repaid so it hits his own personal bank account.

Agree but for a completely different reason. If your company can mess up and pay you this "extra" money for 4 months, what makes you think they wont "mess up" again and keep deducting whatever amount it is that they deduct off your salary after the 6 month payback period? Think about it.

By "local" I think you mean the Chinese company finance department. In my case the Chinese finance dept. has no issue-- the only issue is with the US company who never modified my contract terms.

The world is a very small place and getting smaller all the time. By not doing the right thing here, this situation will most likely come back and bite you when you least expect and can least afford it. You know what you need to do so do it as soon as possible so you can put this all behind you and go forward with a clear conscience.

Everyone in this forum seems to be quite polite in giving you advice cuphead or glue tard or what gave you the idea to write such a stupid username. I'll be blunt. the fact that you seem to justify that you deserve this dishonest and it is dishonest payment makes you a complete tool. Overpaid is overpaid and that fact that you come to this forum to try and find a way to keep the over paid money truely beggars belief. The only reason why you came to this forum is to find a way to keep your dishonest money. Also the way you try to justify how this money is legally yours is pathetic. Go jump off a roof you liar. If greed is good, then people like you need to be shot. You're an idiot.

All I can say now is that if you try to find another way around this, be sure you don't fall down the stairs on the way out of the door. I'm so gonna call up some friends in accounting and find out if they have an anomaly similar to your story. I can't stand s@~ts like you. Thinking you can milk the system with a knife. Time to put that knife in your back a-hole

Personally, I'd fire your a$$ afterwards for letting it continue 4 months, but that's just me.

UPDATE --

H/R says they were aware of this since the beginning, but at this time there will be no change to salary and benefits until the new year?! They need to write an agreement that everyone signs before modifying anything. Guess I'll have to wait and see if this new agreement mentions anything about overpay that they now will WILLINGLY keep giving me.

Strange indeed....
