| Post subject: pls someone give me advice, only few days left on my Visa |
I was hoping someone can help me with this.
i have a residence permit which expires in December.
I've recently lost my job.
To extend my residence permit, i need a work permit . to get a work permit i need a job.
but my time is running out and i don't think i can find a job within 1 week. since its almost already November. You need to apply for an extension 30 days in advance right?
I have no friends with companies that can help me or know anybody that could...... i have no idea what to do. i just lost my job at a bad time right before it expires.. any advice would be appreciated

Go to Hong Kong and get a tourist visa like everyone else. |

You can get a new travel visa for 30 days from the entry & exit dept in Pudong. Go about a week before your residence permit runs out. |

as a word of warning, if you switch to a visa, you will need to undergo the health examination again if and when you next apply for a residence permit.
Could you tell us why you still want to be in China? Is it to seek a job? or are you planning on doing something else - eg. setting up a business, study etc? |

You can also go to Macau to get a visa--up to 1 year multiple entry. It only takes a couple of hours, and you dont have the hassle of Hong Kong. You can call me if you want the agent's name in Macau: 86-15 344868900 |

To clarify, the 30 day "visa extension" is really just a new 30 day tourist visa, which will cancel your old visa/residence permit and have validity for 30 days from the date you applied. If you're really going to go that route, you should apply as late as possible (the day before your visa expires) to get the most time out of it. As long as the PSB accepts the application prior to your visa expiring, it's fine.
It's probably better to find a company to renew your residence permit (I know that might be hard), since it's a lot easier than starting from scratch once you find a job and need to reapply for a Z visa, get a health check, and then change to a residence permit all over again after your current permit expires/ is canceled. |

Go get the visa extension now and keep looking for a job. If you have not found a job by the end of the 30 days go the Hong Kong. Either stay there while you are looking or getting a new visa and then come back. Are you American? What do you do anyways? Do you have money saved up? |

Google for visa agency and check with about your case. Usually, as i heard, extension of F visa cost ~3000 rmb/6 month. Yeah.. fuсk..really.. time is money  |

Just get a job anywhere doing anything...get your visa renewed and then look for whatever job you want.... |

OP. if you really want to stay then you have at least three choices.
1. get yourself any job as long as the employer can provide you with a Residence Permit, you might even consider some part time English teaching just to get the visa? this is an option a fair number of expats take.
2. find a "visa agent" (search on SHexpat) and get them to "help" you secure a new Residence Permit or Business Visa [F]
3. Fly to Macau or HK and apply for a multi-entry Business Visa [F] (this can depend on your nationality and situation, but is doable)
You don't need to be overly concerned and worry about applying for a new visa 30 days out from your current vlaid visa. You can actually apply on the same day your current visa expires (though that is not recommended), though applying the day before is reasonably common and I've applied the day before expiry in several different provinces before on several occassions without any problems.
If you get desperate and go the English teacher route, just be sure the "school" can provide you a valid visa, as many private one's cannot.
Use the search option on SHexpat or look under the Visa section in the forum for some ideas... or posts about reputable visa agents  |

You can ask visa agent like us to help you extend your residence permit, then you can easily change your visa under your own work company.
If you change your residence permit to one month tourist visa, it would be not easy for you to change it back to residence permit without leaving China.

The "government" issues Visa's based in the underlying documentation supplied.
If the documentation supplied is false.....The credibility of the Visa could, at some point, be called into question |

There is no evidence to suggest anything is false. The agent claims it can be done which suggests that it is a legal option. |

Somehow I don't think the agent would be in business for very long if she was doing visa fraud. A small amount of it happens but openly advertising her service doesn't suggest that. |

Usually these "do-able" visas are issued in places where the agent has contacts in the PSB, like in Qingdao. Visas issued anywhere in mainland China can be used nationwide. However once they find out the underlying documents were false, the Shanghai police probably cannot do anything about the visa agent as the crime was committed in a different province where the agent has guanxi - that's why they can freely advertise in Shanghai, but not in Qingdao. Same will not be said of the poor foreigner who gets kicked out simply because s/he has no valid visa. That's the risk.
But as with all crimes, they are of course "do-able" so long as you don't get caught. |

i actually concur with your comments above for a change. It's true the visa agent may well have contacts. Buy Johnny Foreigner won't, and if and when he is caught, proof of the cime - merely requires them to check the authenticity of the documents. Dodgy dcuments=no valid visa=deportation. The balance of proof in China is different than that applied in the West. By that time, the agent has long gone, and Mr Foreigner is on his way out. |
