| Post subject: beware! |
I just want to warn anyone who is considering sending their kid(s) to XiWai International School in SongJiang. The administration is conniving and untrustworthy. I have been working here for 10 months now and have never had a week without some sort of problem. Now they are not wanting to pay me all that they said they would on completion of the contract (of which I still don't have). If you want your kids to learn Chinese then just go public-much less hassle! I have been living and working at many different schools in China in the past 2 and a half years so please don't think this is a naive smeer campaigne. They are at the epitamy of Chinese deceitfulness. I only hope to save as many others as I can... |

Hmm...you do realise that this is your first post...and you're sniping at a previous employer? This is a forum, and nobody knows anything about you, enough for us to make a value judgement of what you have to post.
I also don't know of any international school by the name of XiWai... |

What's that suppost to mean! Just because I don't have time to spend my days on asiaxpat doesn't mean Im not telling the truth. Why would I go out of my way to sign up and warn people if I didn't have something I felt needed to be said?! Now I know the welcome I get here. |

I believe they are a chinese school offering english 3-5 times/hours a week, thus qualifying them for the title of 'international' school.
I laugh since when I walked thru Golden Apple and a few other schools - english lesson was a taped recording of the lesson (could do better watching english TV?).
I believe they are going to have a new American director for their English program... |

Farside,
I am not trying to say you are not telling the truth. I'm trying to say that just throwing in your words suddenly like this is bound to make people take them lightly, especially since you are sniping at a former employer...and the fact that I make my living knowing about international schools here made me go "huh?" at a name I've not encountered before. For words to take be taken strongly and of value, it is necessary to build the trust first. I'm really hoping you'll take what I have to say positively...
I get what you mean too, HKShviaUSA - so nowadays anybody can call themselves any international school huh? |

I don't speak mandarin but I believe it's the name of the school translated from Chinese so if they offer 3-5 hours of English a week (even with a tape recorder!), they can stick in the "international" word in their chinese school name. Gimmick! |

Yes, its all just gimmicks. Its not only hapenning in shanghai, but allover the country, like hangzhou, ningbo, yiwu, shaoxing etc. And their target market is not meant for the expat but actually for the local chinese. As many local chinese parents are very keen for their kids to learn english as early age as possible. Thus these so called chinese international/bilingual schools are taking full advantage of this profit making business.
Most of the schools mention about their foreign/international division, you would be surprised with the quality of admin and so called english native teachers they recruit. And to my research, their response from parents have been encouraging (especially from the locals) that every other school in that area wishes to start the international/foreign division in their respective schools. |

Xiwai is a for profit school, totaly run as a profit center. The teachers are all miserables, the principal has no education background.
Lack of supplies, shortage of teachers. This school was a total rip off and nighmare. After one year, I pulled out my kid and so glad I did. |

I hate people bumping old threads. Michael should consider closing threads inactive for couple of month, lot of forums does that. If someone wants to point to the old thread, he can just post a link |
