| Post subject: potential expat with an unusual visa problem |
Hi folks,
I am considering applying for a temp assignment in Shanghai, but have an unusual situation that might cause difficulties. My fiancee is Russian, waiting for a K1 visa to come to the US and marry. It's possible that I would need to move to Shanghai before she got here. Does anyone have any experience with bringing a fiancee from a 3rd country to China? Or experience with how difficult it would be for a single woman from Russia to get a visa to live with her American fiancee in China? Does this sound like a show-stopping problem? Assuming I can get her into China, does anyone have experience with bringing a 3rd nation spouse back to the US from China?
Thanks,
Rob |

Getting a Chinese visa for her will not be a problem. Even if the Chinese embassy in the US makes any problems for you then you can easily solve them by having her get a China visa from one of the many visa agents in Hong Kong (do a search of the site to get info on this).
I have no idea about the situation with bringing her back to the US from China. That seems like a whole separate problem. |

That is a pity but who knows, all things are for the best.
And I wanted to share my experience (I am Russian, my boyfriend is French and how we did all these things with visa)
By the way it is easier for a Russian officially single and unemployed young girl to get a visa to China than to HK, sad but true, chances are small. |
