go to the shanghai railway station...the best train to nanjing is just 72 RMB (3 hours to nanjing)

Don't have phone number or address, but the guesthouse at Nanjing Normal Uni is nice. Asking a taxi driver to take you to "Nanjing Shifan Daxue Waibing de Zhaodaisuo" should get you there. I think they call the uni "Shida" for short.
Nice peaceful building surrounded by the uni. The room I stayed in (on ground floor down the corridor to the left of reception, was newly renovated). Cost no more than 200RMB/night. They have a range of different room types with different prices. I think there were some cheaper than mine. Breakfast included.
Location in on the west side of town, about a 30 min walk north-west of Xinjiekou (center of town). Got a few bars and late closing restaurants around the area if you go hunting. |

that was 1 year ago, the fastest now is 2h17mn, 2 in the morning from sh to nj( 8h30 and 8h37) , and 2 back to shanghai in the afternoon (13h20 and 13h27),very comfortable
for the hotels ,depends on ur budget, u can get good ones around 400yuan, and u can just check on internet of names.......if u r on low budget ,i recommand the Nanjing international youthh hotel in Fu zi miao, very clean and close to everywhere, nice terrase on roof for a drink with friends
50yuan for a bed and around 150yuan for a standard room with own washroom
