Post subject: Site upgrade

Hiya.

Like the site and the layout only gripe I have is that its quite slow when skipping between forums.

Another site I visit has just migrated from PHP to V Bulliten and the speeds and layout is much improved.

I know its a lot of hard work and money to do this but is this somthing that may be considered in the future?

I prefer VBulletin too and the latest version is super fast. There's not even a reload time if you edit a post Very Happy

But it is a huge undertaking especially from MDForum which uses a very different database structure.

Definitely something to think about though.

Thanx for your response.

Its not only that but all the hacks and filters thats you could apply to the forums to aid Admins and the rest of the staff is endless.

On a well known DVD talk site we apply hacks where some forums are hidden until the member has reached 100 posts. This was purely to promote discussion again. However the backlash from this was that most ppl went stupid with copying and pasting their posts in order to get their post count up.

For a while the mods work was cut out editing and removing posts and Pming the offending members and after a while control was gained again.

Some of the lurkers and leechers have since drifted off elsewhere.

Now we have applyed the 50 letter minimun hack which has helped got the forums buzzing again.

But this was only an example.

Different forums need different things to make them work well, but its food for thought.

BTW keep up the great work here, I really dig this site.

Thanks for the feedback. Switching Forums presents some problems. Merging member DB, integration with the rest of the site, migrating all the current forum info are pretty big tasks. Something to look at.. but even if there were a migration tool, chances are we would end up with a forum that was standalong, separate from the site requiring additional login. It is something to look into to though.

I agree it does take a hell of a lot of work, but a good coder is normally required, we did have our issues with some lame coders that swore they were up to the task, but were not Sad
