Post subject: Tips on getting spousal permanent resident visa for CANADA?

Just looking for someone who has gone through it to give some tips... and about how long did it take since application until the time you got the visa?

Did you have to go to Beijing at all?

I'm just reading through the documents and starting to fill them out now.

It was straightforward for me when I did it years ago. But that was not in China. Once I submitted all the necessary papers it took 3 months or so. Might vary a bit now that you are in China. It does also depend, or did at my time, on how long you have been married.

It might be that they invite you for an interview to Beijing if they deem it to be shady. You might also be able to do certain things at the consulate in Shanghai. There where some documents that needed a Guarantor which I did not have. Those things I could fill out in front of the Consulate Officer together with a document called 'in lieu of a guarantor"

A lot of interesting answers in regards to spousal visa and eventual citizenship can be found in this forum

Did you need to get any documents translated?

Also, isn't it false advertising calling yourself "swisscook" instead of "canadiancook"? Laughing

Assuming your spouse is a Canadian PR applying to sponsor you (or you're a Canadian PR applying to sponsor your spouse), about half of the applications like yours processed in Beijing are done within 4 months after the sponsor is approved and the file is sent from Canada to Beijing. It takes more than twice as long from Southern China for some reason. I think where it gets processed in China depends on where the Chinese applicant's registered home is.

All the documents you submit must be translated into either English or French. The official ones will need to be translated by an accredited translator. In some cases, some of the documents and the translations may even need to be notarized. But informal documents (e.g. letters to one another, for example) may be acceptable even if translated by non-accredited translators.

I did not need to get anything translated as all documents in Switzerland are issued in german/french/italian/rumantsch. Hence Canada accepted all documents in French.

As for me, I am Swiss - Canadian. Learned cooking in Switzerland and worked there a bit before moving back to Canada. And now cooking in Shanghai.
