| Post subject: Hair, nails, wax & facial in Puxi |
I'm a newcomer in Shanghai, moved in last month. I've searched through the forum and found lots of info on the subject. However most of it seems to be outdated (2004-2007). Therefore I would be very thankful if you could provide some references about:
1) Professional english speaking hairdresser in Puxi (Zhong Shan Park area is preferable) for the reasonable price. I have long and straight natural blonde hair, need to trim and style it regularly.
2) Safe manicure and pedicure spots with pleasant atmosphere and English speaking staff (OPI or China Glaze products).
3) Trustable wax hair removal professional. Brazilian bikini and full legs.
4) Professional and experienced facial, qualified for working with problematic skin (blackheads removal, exfoliating and deep cleansing).
Names, phones, addresses, prices and websites would be highly appreciated!!! |

Well, for hair and waxing, I can help.
I have an American hair stylist who does amazing work both on haircuts and on highlights or regular dying, she can do it either in her apartment (Hong Mei Lu) or at yours and her rates are AMAZING!!!
For waxing, I know this Israeli girl who also does it in her apartment (she turned one room into a waxing salon), uses imported wax and is very very good, her rates a little bit lower than those of most salons. And she lives near Jing An Temple.
In case you are not familiar with the city yet, both locations are a 10-15 minute drive from ZhongShan Park.
As far as facials, Diva Life are good but not great, Aqua Villa are good but expensive, Dragonfly are horrible and if Apsara Spa are as good at facials as they are at Massages, then it is probably the best place in town (have not tried facial there yet though).
For manicures and pedicures I am a but torn, as I like OPI too, but the place I found to have the best technique (I-Nail) does not use that, they use something else, not too bad, but it does not last as long as OPI.
Hope this helps, PM me if interested in the contact info for any of the above. |

How about a nails/facial place for guys? Or has Shanghai been left off the metrosexual craze? |

regarding the WAX LADY:
I think i have also been to the same Israeli girl freedelia spoke of - her name is Ortal and she lives in One Park Avenue.
I highly recommend her !
unlike the chinese girls in places around time, this foreign lady is a certified professional.
she uses Depileve wax (i know the name from back home) and she can match different kinds of wax according your skin type (she knew i had sensitive skin type and told me she will use special wax before i even told her about it).
I have already been to her place several time for eyebrows and bikini and was really pleased every time!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
if interested - feel free to contact me for her phone number.
regarding massages:
i can recommend the "double rainbow" place at Yu-yuan lu. its a really cheap (50yuan) and clean place to have chinese body and foot massage. really good and nice atmosphere!
FREEDELIA - pls send me the number of the hairdresser. i still couldnt find in shanghai a decent hairdresser at a reasonable price.. |

Mani/Pedi:
Agree I-Nails somehow have better technique, but I go to Sweet Nails now (uses OPI, and cheaper) at Zizhong lu/Madang lu, near XTD, 63851266 (RM108 for pedi. Have waxing services and menu for men.)
Facial:
I go to the expert - Lancome Institute, corner of Nanjing W Road/Shanxi Road, across Zara, 62671240 (Re-opening this Sun, June 7 after 2 months of renovation. Cleansing facial was about RMB250 before but am told prices will double/triple when re-opens. They do facial for men as well.)
If you like Jurlique, try www.at-home.com.cn. I've tried deep cleansing facial but it was more of a facial massage.
Dermalogica facials are now available at www.shuiurbanspa.com.cn. I haven't try this as I'm happy at Lancome although they don't speak that much of English. |

I went to the Israeli gal for bikini and full leg waxing last week. I'm very satisfied and glad to find a right person in Shanghai. She used 3 different types of wax depending on the area and sensitivity of skin. Most important - not painful! The place is very clean and looks like a room in the salon. Highly recomended!
PM me if you need her contacts. |

Dermalogica is only sold in spas that use their products. In Shanghai, there are only two places that I know of that use Dermalogica:
Shui Urban Spa (in Ferguson Lane, above Franck Bistrot)
Shile (but it's way out in a villa complex near the Pudong Airport) |

Shui Urban Spa also has waxing services (they also use Depileve) and nails (they use Essie and OPI) |

Are you **** kidding??? Benson is a joke and if their hair styling skills are as bad as their marketing skills, it makes sense that they are so desperate... |

I have heard that the facials at the village retreat are good but I had a terrible waxing experience there. It took more than two hours cos they were doing an inch square at a time! She didn't heat the wax enough so it hurt more putting it on than taking it off! and she didn't pull the skin taught. I had the worst ingrowing hairs afterwards - maybe I just got a trainee but it was the worst wax I've ever had (and that's saying something). |

yup - tried calling her 2 weeks ago and her phone was off. Until she comes back is there any 2nd recommendation for good waxing? Ended up going to Dragonfly - very average and not sure about the hygiene |

^For waxing, Helen at Diva Life has been recommended. I personally recommend seeing Nancy Yu, formerly of the Portman beauty salon. She's set up her own 'shop' on Nanjing Lu by the Westgate Mall. PM me and I'll forward you her details. |
