| Post subject: Laundry destroy expensive clothes |
My wife gave to laundry her best white suit (jacket + trousers) in silk.
She thought that in China they knew how to wash silk (since 5000 years...) but she received her suit 2 sizes shorter and like made of paper !!!
On the lable inside it's clearly indicated to don't wash in water, but they did for sure !!!
I would like to know what she can do:
1) Reimbursment ? She paid around 500 euros...
2) Ask to the laundry to pay somebody to prepare a new suit for her ?
3) Some other suggestions ?
I am quite desperate. |

Unfortunately labels are not in chinese, but anyway there are symbols.
We will see what happend tomorrow when we will go to complain and to show how short became such suit. A local person will help us.
Thank you for your post. |

Sorry to hear about your experience. But as you live here in Shanghai longer, one learns not to assume too much nor expect too much. I am in agreement with Coffeehawk in that you will likely fare best if you get a local involved to negotiate your loss. you will not get nearly enough back, but will likely need their help to get the point across unless you are fluent in local language and culture. |

Mantovano... good luck, I feel your pain! I've had some things also destroyed by the drycleaners but never a really expensive item like your wife's and I was still quite upset! |

Sadly, you are toast. Here is China
But something is odd about that, too. I wash silk in water all the time. The story (don't know if it's true) is that rich Chinese used to have ricksha runners wear their new silk clothes because they became softer if soaked in sweat a few times before being washed. I am pretty sure they didn't have dry cleaning in 1500. Anyone know what the story really is about washing silk ? |
