Post subject: F Visa and Z Visa

I heard from friend that they are using F Visa to work in Shanghai and renew it every 3-6 months in HK or Pudong, is it a viable things?

Is it true using F Visa do not need to pay China Tax because the salary is not drawn in RMB but USD.
So is it a neccessary to go thru so much hassle to get a Z Visa?
I heard getting F Visa but stay for more than some times need to pay tax too?
So what is the actual rules in China?

Working in China on an "F" visa is illegal. Also, even if the salary is drawn in US$ it is still taxable.

Although the chances of getting caught working illegally are slim (though not as slim as before), if you do get caught you are, basically, screwed. And if at the same time they find out that you haven't been paying tax, you are royally screwed.

If the employer who wants to sponsor you is authorized to hire expat staff, it isn't too difficult. If the employer has no quota to hire expats, forget about getting a "Z" visa.

Also with the Z visa, you will need to get it outside of China....like at the Chinese Consulate General in your country, or the CCG in Hong Kong.

Had to go through this process myself with some help from my employer and it took too long because of one missing document...Letter of Invitation. Once I got that squared away, the rest was a breeze.
