Post subject: Chinese-esque Wal-Mart or Costco???

Hi, I need to buy a bunch of things and don't know where to find them. I live off Xie Tu Lu (yes far south I know) but I work on XinZha Rd by Shimen No. 2. Is there any Walmart or big supermarket nearby where I can buy some towels and like a small duffel bag or maybe a small suitcase? I know in Beijing there is the Hongqiao Silk Market in Chaoyang where you can buy almost anything, and the great thing about it is that they bargain and you can negotiate prices. Is there a touristy store like that here in Shanghai. (Honqiao Silk Market was a huge tourist attraction!!!)

You need to go to a Carrefour.. you can get towels, bags and suitcases, and all groceries.. you can not bargain there though. Smile There used to be the Xiang yang market, now it has closed and some new ones have arrived.. if you do a search on the forums for fake markets..you will find the addresses. There is also Walmart but thats somewhere in Pudong I think.. am not sure of the address.
I can not see which of the Carrefour stores is near you, but may be you could show these to your colleagues in your office and they could tell you.

Yu Yuan market has a lot of small stores - a lot of things and gifts, sovernior, bags etc. to buy. There are many buildings there but based on my experience can go to the following :-
1. Fu You Shopping Mall - a white / creamy building just right at intersection of He Nan Zhong Lu 河南中路x Fu You Lu 福佑路边 - gifts, towels, socks, stationery, bags, cases, party stuff and a lot of misc. stuff
2. name forgotten but is right on corner Ren Men Lu 人民路 x Li Shui Lu 丽水路- building in champane & white colour with a big KTV logo. 3-5 min walk pass the park at back of the above mall towards the bund direction.1st floor with all the small parts/accessories for clothing industries but 2nd and 3rd floor with all the bags and cases

thank you guys so much. also, i read some other outdated posts, and it seems that a place called "Xang Yiang Market" or XY, has closed, albeit it sounds perfect for other things i need to buy including the bag/suitcase i need. Do you know where it has relocated or the best comparable place is? thanks a lot

I read here on the forum that the market which is next ( or near ?) to the Science and Technology Museum Metro station Pudong is good.. Like I said, do a search on the forums, see the search function on the left ? try searching for "fake markets.".

there's a Walmart in Wujiaochang. It has everything you need and then some but kinda far from where you live. The best market to go to is the one in Pudong, get off at the Science and Technology Museum subway stop and it's right there.
