I've been a few times now to this Spanish place on Donghu Lu (opposite Jenny's Bar). It's always great, new dishes on the menu every month, tapas style eating so if you go as a couple you still get to try 6-8 different things.
The chef puts a lot of care into the food, packing the kind of flavour you get at Stillers or Jade on 36, but last night the bill for food (for two) was just over 300RMB. Bottle of Viognier- 255RMB.
Love it in there. |

I've been there a couple of times albeit not for a while. It was superb the times I've been there. Is it still really busy at the weekends? |

I do love it as a drinking hole and I am a big fan of their little beef cheek things. They are simply delightful. |

What do you drink in there? Wine?
I'd imagine it's plenty busy at the weekend, we were pretty crammed in yesterday and it was (for anyone without a calendar) a Monday night.
Another great thing about last night was that I used a voucher from the Enjoy book and got a 100RMB discount on the meal. That thing has paid for itself several times over.
Willy's opening a cocktail bar above the Shelter soon- should be interesting. |

yeah am a frequent visitor over the summer, like to sit outside and drink their wine which is quite good and not too badly priced. |

I love the food there and the crowd make the whole atmosphere lively. Went there quiet often when they open. Was there a month ago and still great place to return. |

Yeah I haven't really spoken to Willy but he puts all the little touches on the menu, blog and adverts to make it a fun and relaxed place despite the high quality.
There were people in there having a cosy romantic meal, and some pretty big groups laughing and having a good time- nothing wrong with a bit of fun and laughter in a restaurant if you ask me. |

One of my favorite places in this city with a choice combo of good atmosphere (patio!), great cocktails, and a solid menu. |

Agreed.
The food is fantastic- have only been once, but this has reminded me that we're due for another round... great place. |

sorry to weigh in on this love fest for el willy - and admittedly i've only been there once but my experience there was terrible. i'd heard great things so was really looking forward to it but for a start the "paella" - which really should be good in a spanish restarant! was a sloppy tasteless mess. the other dishes were ok but nothing special and so small that we had to order so many that the bill was extortionate for the quality. the worst thing was the service - i had to ask three waiters before i got an answer as to whether there were raw eggs in a dish. Even then they couldn't give me a straight answer. we also had to ask several times for a lot of things (and it wasn't a busy night).
this was a couple of months ago so hopefully things have improved in the interim but it would take a lot of persuading for me to go back for a second try i'm afraid |
