Post subject: Help: working for a local company, negotiating C&B

Need help with people that have done this before.

Got a job with a local firm and now in the process of negotiating my compensation and benefits. Other than the pay, what are some of the benefits ppl have asked & received?

One specific question about health insurance. The local firm obviously doesn't have relationships with large US insurance carriers. I don't know if Worldlink offers a plan itself, and I have no intention of going to a local hospital. What have others done in the past?

Thanks a lot.

On Insurance
If you use local health care, it can be extremely cheap ( though not maybe what you are used to in terms of care) Pluses and minuses to this. In that case, you can self insure and perhaps supplement for big issues (catastrophic care) get your own insurance through an international agency that would reimburse you. There are several.. Pacific Prime in Shanghai.. Goodhealth, BUPA. All linked on this site. Depending on your coverage and details, it could run anywhere from US$1000 a year up to as much as you want to spend.

Some local companies provide lunch package for their employees. Others reimburse their employees' cellphone bill. I also heard they can get 13, even 14 months of annual salary as a bonus. If you often travel out of town, you could ask for allowance/day & compensation. Usage of car is also part of the benefits for middle-upper management.
