Post subject: Relocating out of Shanghai

There is a possibility that I will be relocated to Taipei next year.
With the world financial crisis, is it a good idea to move to Taipei?

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Could be a good idea.
But it depends about your expectations: for work ? for quality of life?

I believe Taiwan will weather the storm better than other places.
Maybe you should say a bit more about your targets, to get more feedback

Actually its my company intention to move me there.
I do not want a pros and cons answer cause there are personal preferences, etc.
What I need to know is opportunities offered by each city.

ok, maybe my previous was not clear enough; at least, you should say about your industry.
In the last 4-5 years, taiwan was lagging behind Shanghai, mostly because western people were sick tired of waiting for the 3 links between Taiwan and China.
Many MNC had left Taiwan in favor of Shanghai or beijing (for example, a little over one year ago, fedex had closed their regional hub in Kaohsiung).
http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/business/news/article_1327173.p hp/FedEx_to_pull_out_of_Taiwans_industrial_centre_Kaohsiung

"FedEx is the latest of several largest foreign companies to leave Taiwan due to the island's economic downturn caused mainly by its five-decade ban on direct trade and sea/air links with China."

With the new warming up, I think several companies will choose to return to Taipei.
Besides , taiwanese companies are not exclusively focused on Mainland China; there is a growing trend of Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam, India etc.
And no matter what Warz said many times in the past, taiwanese have quite a lot of financial muscle, good design and R&D.

I think once the daily flights Taipei-Shanghai will be a reality without any hassle, many companies will start to reconsider the location of their East Asia office
