Hi
My husband has been offered an excellent job for 1yr, but we just can't decide what to do ! we have 3 boys, age 6 and twins 4 and I'm afraid to halt them across the world and to be homesick. Is there any other expat families that can help me I would really appreciate your experiences please.

4&6, homesick ????
Come on, at their age, nothing matters apart from family environment.

I grew up an expat kid. My family was constantly moving back and forth between Europe and Asia. It was a fantastic way for me to see the world and experience new things. I turned out fine Wink

Besides, I agree with Benoist_Shanghai about your children being so young that they will be fine. At that age, a child's world is the family, so as long as that is intact, they will be fine. Good luck. This is a great opportunity!

Dear Eva,

Really no worries for that, children of that age really like to explore and as long as the family is their safeport they'll be fine. I would say take this opportunity and grab the experience and of course sometimes you'll feel homesick, but that's normal.

Just remember there are other families here too and Shanghai has also many communities from different countries. Plus you'll love the weather, trust me. 100% better then my hometown in Holland Mr. Green

Good luck and maybe meet you here,

Ivo

Hi, Eva,
I am local Shanghainese. I am sure that at the beginning you will feel more homesick than your three children, they will be easy to find more fun through the living and study with some other childrens from all the world. More and more friends you will make here, you will be ease here.

My formere boss and also my friends has ever lived and studied in Irish(Limerick University) for several years, he knows some friends from Irland and UK, maybe you will take the chance to know each other.

By the way, I am an property agency here, so I know Shanghai very well, any problem if you need my help, it will be my great hornor!!

Wish to see you soon here in Shanghai!

Surprise, surprise! So many people are praising about Shanghai's weather!! two days ago it was above 20 and today down to 7. It's exciting alright.

Back to the topic - Eva, your kids will be fine here. But for yourself, you may want to ask Ben5 some questions about where to find Irish foods and stuffs in Shanghai. Other than that, Shanghai is rather ok except the common problem at any growing city - air pollution, tap water is not drinkable.. Hope I didn't scare you further?
