Post subject: how did you feel before & after relocating to Shanghai

i'm relocating next week to work in Shanghai. I've mixed feelings. Apprehension, excitement, confidence, and yet insecurity. Never felt this way when I left for the US for college, or during my backpacking trips. I'm worried about making the wrong decision, about hating the pollution, rude people, people with constant secret thoughts, and state control.
I'm excited about the culture & chaos, a nice break from predictability.

How did you feel?

It's a kinda pessimistic mindset that you're in right now, but it's good in a way. You're expecting the worst, so I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find how nice it really is here. When I moved, there was just so much to be done, I didn't have a lot of spare time to think about those kind of issues too much. So, stop worrying about Shanghai and think about what else needs to be packed! Have a smooth trip...

Didn't worry me in the least mainly because I have done it so many times.
But fundamentally I know that after I give it a fair chance, and still don't like it, I can just get on the plane and leave. Nothing is ireversible.
If you weren't excited there wouldn't be much point in going would there? If it wasn't new and different, a move out of your comfort zone then you should stay home. You know why you are going to Shanghai... so just do it.

Agree with Blackdog here, you know why you move to Shanghai and of course you'll have mixed feelings. Hey your moving to another country with complete different culture. Just try to prepare well and don't forget to pack your most important things. You'll do fine here,

Ivo
