Post subject: Great Firewall Problem or Computer Problem?

I use www.igindex.co.uk for financial trading. I need reliable access as I use it on a daily basis. However in the past few days I have been having problems. The website opens so it cannot be blocked here. However the dealing platform, which I believe is Java based, does not open and just hangs. The technical support suggested a number of settings for either IE or Firefox but none of these seems to help. Any ideas?

I have had problems with personal firewalls on some of the AV packages when some embedded java app collides with the firewall rules. Test by running with the firewall off for a few minutes.

Reinstall WIndows ! And then remove your router and connect directly to the Internet ! And probably your computer is too old, you need to buy a new one !

I also trade currency with FXCM, also Java opens the trading station, and sometimes it crashes, (which can be very embarrasing), but everything else is working. Usually shutting down, and turning off the router for a few minutes fixes it.

Nah, it was sarcasm by leidelaohu. ie the typical Chinese IT "expert" way to solve a problem, by taking the easiest shortcut...

Yeah I picked up the point in leidelaohu's post, I'm used to his humour by now.....

I have still been having problems and I'm guessing that it is a service provider issue rather than a computer one as I have two separate computers that I am using, both with the same problem. I have IE 7 on one and IE 8 on the other. Both also have Firefox and my Java is up to date on both.

Damn frustrating as without a reliable trading platform I am reluctant to trade anything. Maybe I should look at other options.

Complete morons. Of course as soon as I rebuilt it for him it runs like a rocket. Must have been all the nice pre-installed spyware/malware!

Assistant's mom has an older Legend. About three years ago I put Win2k on it and spiffied up the hardware. Ran great but over the years it was molested until it finally succumbed to Home User Syndrome. So she took it in to the Legend / Lenovo dealer.

They took out half the memory and said it didn't need that much.

They pulled the Matrox G400 out and said the onboard graphics was better.

They insisted on installing XP, got it half loaded and then the hard drive mysteriously quit working. Too old, it was about eight months old.

So now the hard drive is not functioning, there's no operating system, half the boards and memory have been removed and they give up, give it back to her claiming that there's something wrong with the motherboard so she needs a new computer.

This is the Lenovo dealer.

Assistant has apparently been listening when I froth. It was interesting listening to her English vocabulary.

We brought it up to Shanghai, spent a couple hours fixing everything. Runs like a top now.

This is an underexaggeration. The truth was worse. Amazing.

Ouch! Not surprising though. The normal level of support from even the major vendors here is pathetic.
