Post subject: MBA grads... Jobs and interns. Or just a start!

Hi All,

Im nearly completing my MBA (Well, doing the dissertation) and was wondering about the best ways to find work here. Im already doing some HR and training, but what are the best ways to at least get a foot in the door of companies here.
Interships, part time etc are all ok.

How did everyone get work here?

Cheers!

Is it hard to get a start in a company here? Even an entry level position for some more experience!

Cheers!

MBAs are a dime a dozen.

Large foreign firms almost never hire in-country.

Yes there are many people with "married but available" degrees in Shanghai.

It also depends on where you got your MBA, as it's very much a door opener / networking tool more than anything else. If it's not from a top tier university, then it's doubly more difficult in this economy, depending also on what you want to do. Stuff like the school is ranked top 10 in some region by some magazine in a field that no one cares about is next to useless.

^ Agree. Unless your MBA is from one of the top 20 MBA schools then your MBA isn't worth the paper it is written on. Seems that people are even getting MBAs online these days or from schools that are not even in the top 100. Since you are from Australia then I am guessing that your school is in the top 40-60, not bad but your MBA is not going to be worth much in China especially since you are competing against Chinese and other foreign talent who got their MBA from CEIBS in Shanghai, which is ranked #11 by the financial times. Other top level expats have MBAs from Thundebird and Harvard etc. If, however, you have an MBA with a few years of specialist experience then that it another story.

MBA's have always been a joke. Harvard invented the fricking things so that people who couldn't get a real degree would have a palce to spend their money. Guess where ? When they first came out everyone snickered at the very mention ... Harvard should be ashamed of itself. Even whores have some self-respect.

Too right. A year or two wasted and 40 grand if you're lucky just so that you can land an internship making 3800 rmb per month re-filling the photocopier. The big unis were smart to pull this con job out of their arses.

any educational course heavily avdertised in the press is always going to be a pile of horse manure, such as MBA's. Business adminstration? Common sense and shrewd thinking is all you need, not letters after your name.
