| Post subject: Job Searching Experiences |
Hello everyone,
Really glad I found this place which seems to be filled with amazing people.
I am currently a freelance web designer/graphic designer/video production speciaist based in New York City, and as you may have aready know, the economy is suffering and so is the media industry. There are a few loca interviews, but nothing too exciting. And now I am activily looking for new opportunities in China.
So I am wondering what your job searching experiences are like. Is it possible to apply for a job while you're still in the US? How did you rise the company's interest?
Any leads are greaty appreciated! Thanks in advance |

Nooyawker eh? The local salary is about 200-300K range, that is if u get ur US company to send u over here, expect more than half of ur US salary to be cut. Remember, Shanghai is no longer considered a hardship post anymore. Or, u can become an ESL/EFL teacher, making 5000RMB a month(maybe 8000), plus a roundtrip ticket yearly, like many of the shanghaiexpats here |

Thank you , theexpat, for your suggestions. I'm planning on a visit sometime in the next two months. Would it be better for me to search for opportunities once I'm there, or vice versa? |

To make the 200-300k per annum range (rmb not USD) stated above, you need the opportunity developed and offered to you in the US. We developed our web designer/graphic designer/video production team in Shanghai and the average department monthly wages are in the rmb 4000 range and we get top local certified and experienced talent at that rate. |

Theexpat,
I would suggest you can do MUCH better than 5000 RMB per month teaching ESL - I got 7000 RMB per month last year PLUS housing allowance in Hefei .
I am doing significantly better here in Shanghai financially.
Cheers, |
