sometimes (maybe 20% of the time?) i received text messages some 20 minutes after the sender sends it out. who's phone is the culprit? mine or the other party's? we both are china mobile subscribers if that helps at all. |

It takes a few minutes to get laundered by Central Committee.
They do their best. |

Alligator, maybe it's your girlfriend's enormous baps that are causing some kind of time space continuum kinda thing. You never know. Call Mythbusters. |

Happens to me and the gf about the same amount of times. I am bill pay, she is prepay, both CMCC. I assume it is some problem with load in their network. Possibly they prioritise some traffic based on subscriber subscription plan or else just congestion in the network may 'lose' some traffic. |

i'm guessing it's the first explanation, as this has happened to me for my previous 2 other phones as well.
and of course sometimes (5%?) i never receive the sms at all. |

20 minutes? Fuck you are lucky. several hours sometimes, specially if from abroad. It's the shoddy network here, nothing else. Hey TIC |

A semi-related tip (for that 5% OR so of the time that you or the person you're sending it to doesn't receive the SMS at all): check the sent messages folder on your phone, scan down to the bottom of the message where it lists the sms recipient, etc. If there's no time stamp down there, it means that the message didn't get sent, even if it's in your sent folder. Usually, if I turn my phone off, turn it back on, and try sending the message again, it does then go through. On of China's weird little mysteries I guess... |

I claim the record for the longest delay for an SMS. A few years a colleague called me and said "OK what's the problem?" As I hadn't seen him for 6 months I asked him what he meant. Apparently he was back in Asia and had just received an SMS I had sent 6 months previously during his earlier visit. I was surprised as I thought they would automatically get deleted after a day or so if they had not been delivered. |

Your threads are like a William Burroughs novel.
They make no sense at all, but funny as hell.
