Hello all!
I am planning a trip in June, and hope to travel to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos. My main questions are:
1. I plan to fly to Kuala Lumpur (couldn't find any cost friendly flights to Singapore), and am now debating whether to catch another flight/bus down to Singapore for a few more days, then back to KL and then onward North. It seems like I'd be a lot of back-trakking from KL-Singapore-KL, and I want to know will the money/time be worth it to visit Singapore? I've been told its wonderful, and also been told to skip it. Thus, I am hoping someone could offer some insight as to what I will find/be able to do while in Singapore, and if 3 days is even worth the time I'll be spending on the bus or in the airport.
2. I plan to travel Malaysia by train, and hope to stop at KL, the Cameroon Highlands and Penang. Does anyone think there are some cities/destinations I am leaving out (I only have time to tour the Western coastline, unfortunately). I've heard Malacca is a cool city to see, and I could potentially stop off (if I take the train) on my way back to KL, but again I've heard mixed reviews.
Thanks in advance to everyone who helps!

All depends on what you are after? Big city? Nature? Hiking? Beaches? etc.
Melacca is definitely worth a visit, a cool old village with lots of history. Be sure to stay in one of the best hotels ever - Hotel Puri. Nicely located and very picturesque.
If you have never been to Singapore it could definitely be worth a visit.
Sort out the mixed reviews and choose your own agenda! |

Singapore is really good though can be a bit expensive. I would either take a coach from central KL ( 5 hours?) or get cheap return flights from Air Asia from KL to SP to KL.
Plenty of sights to see (including the local talent), take a boat trip around the island, beaches, Safari (a bit twee but okay if that's your thing), great hawker food centres to eat in, go to Raffles hotel and have a few Singapore Slings for lunch followed by afternoon tea, lots of nightlife.......etc etc
Check out local expat websites for more info.
Enjoy! |

Hello,
Is it worth the monely/time to visit Singapore? It really depends on the kind of experience that you prefer in your travel plan.
Singapore maybe a small island, but it's big enough for anyone to be there to enjoy. From its cultural places and shopping, to all kinds of sea-sports imaginable and some of the best clubs and restaurants in Asia. All this could be done 3days/2nights, especially for a first timer visit to Singapore. Again, you could choose to spend like there's no tomorrow in Singapore, or you could easily have as much fun if you are on a shoe-string budget. From KL, you could take a 5-hours coach ride (less than 100USD for 2-way ticket) to Singapore.
Good luck with your trip!

Melaka is indeed a nice place to see for a day between KL and Singapore. If you're in that part of the world, and have time and some money, of course it's worth a few days to visit Singapore...it's a great city. The zoo and bird aviary are well worth a day (they're world class and in the western part), and then 1 very full day in the central area. Spend an evening along the river, maybe another in the Arab quarter, see the light show at Sentosa, or eat at a seafood restaurant on the coast. Singapore's a little pricey, but easy to get around, safe, friendly, and interesting to see the different cultures mixed together. Only visited there many times, always enjoyed it. |

Just wanted to point out that the weather in Malaysia is probably better on the east coast during that time. West coast usually experiences a lot of rain and storms during that time, less on the east coast. You can easily get there with a cheap (less than $30) flight from KL. Went to Redang Island and the Perhentian Islands on the east coast during that time, was awesome! If you would consider that I can give you more info but else good luck with your trip. |

Thanks everyone!
I am very interesting in Big City/Hiking/Beach...The safari and islands sound fun...and by sea sports do you mean jet skiing and what not? Sounds like I will be catching a cheap roundtrip flight. Singapore sounds worth a visit so thank you for your input!
