| Post subject: Nine years prison, whoopee! |
criminal lawyer W-J Ausma, counsellor of the 24 year old Somali pirate Yusuf Ahmed:
| Quote: |
My customer speaks only Somali. He has been locked up in the prison in Holland now and we communiate by means of an interpreter.
He is so happy. Its arrest is the best ever happened to him, he says.
He jumped in air when I told him that he for at least four, maybe nine years will be locked up in a Dutch prison. I think that we in the West have no idea about the situation in Somalia.
I told him: "According to the Dutch law, piracy is punished with nine years, but I will try to make that four years"
I could see the disappointment in his eyes. "Why not nine?" he asked me?
He is extremely happy in the prison. He gets food, has a nice room with TV and there are all kinds of sports accommodation. He wants to learn Dutch as soon as possible.
He wants to study a proper profession and hopes ever to be able to move his family to the Netherlands. But that's a worry for later, he said. |
