| Post subject: Pasha- New Turkish Restaurant on Nanchang Lu |
Dear Friends,
A new Turkish restaurant has been opened last week on 262 Nanchang Lu (near Ruijin Er Lu).
We are serving your favourite kebabs with different mediteranean and Middle Eastern starters (meze).
The kitchen is led by our executive Turkish Chef Mr. Hackali who is the previous head chef of Anadolu on Hengshan Lu.
We also have other authentic Turkish items such as Turkish Pizza, Turkish Coffee, Lahmacun and probably it goes wth saying shisha.
We will be open late on the weekends until 1-2AM in the morning and we close midnight in the weekdays.
We have a modern decor with some Turkish & Islamic touch which we hope you will enjoy.
As we just opened, we will welcome all comments, especially negative ones to improve and offer better service to our customers.
Cheers, |

I'm not familiar at all with Turkish food. Do you have a menu posted online somewhere I could check out? |

Sorry, we are doing the website now; probably will be launched in few weeks.
Turkish food is quite diverse depending on the region of Turkey. But the famous sort of it is "KEBAB (S)" We have 8-10 different kebabs on the menu.
Food is also based on meze(s) Turkish or Mediteranea style starters. Meze can be from anything. They are small size dishes that you generally share and enjoy with wine or Turkish Raki. They might be eggplant or yogurt based and you generally eat bread with them.
Apart from that, Turkish Pizza is also quite popular, especially Lahmacun.
This can be a brief outline. But I think if you tried and liked Greek or Lebanese food before; you will probably enjoy the Turkish food as well. |

That is great news. I assume by Turkish Pizza you mean Pide. Just a word of advice, try not to have an all you can eat concept. The reason I stopped going to Anadolu, was primarily because I saw almost three of the same kind of dish sitting there. Also a get a more reasonable pricing. |

My knowledge of Turkish food is limited to: Kebabs, baklava and moussaka.
All of which I enjoy. |

Two bonus points for simply announcing your new restaurant instead of pulling the fraudulent question-and-answer routine ! That's a good start.
Good luck |

I went to Pasha last week - very nice indeed! We were there for a late lunch, and sat at one of the balcony tables upstairs. I had the chicken shish which was really nicely cooked. My manfriend had the lamb chops which he enjoyed.
One thing though, the chef looked really sad - cheer up! Your food is excellent! |

Thanks Carlon78. I am very glad you enjoyed it and hope meeting you on person if you come again. You can ask for "Burak"
By the way, we will be on SHERPA'S next week for longer distance delivery.
I will tell our head chef your positive comments about the food, I am sure it will make him happier than he looked that day |

Tried Pasha last night ... it was okay. The food was pretty good - maybe not great but definitely okay. The service was above average for Shanghai but damn, just for once can I get the last bite into my mouth before somebody swoops down on the table to take away the plate ? There must be a hi-tech sensor in each plate to tell the servers when the weight drops to empty, since they aren't anywhere to be found when you want another glass of water.
Both Assist and I thought that for what you get, it is a little expensive. Not enough to make me feel upset but ... doesn't make you overjoyed, either. Vegetables are cheap. Maybe four slices of tomato instead of two on the $15 dish would make me feel a little happier. Go hog-wild, put a piece of cucumber or squash or something on there, too. The meat looks so lonely out there all by itself. And the rice could be fresh and have a little flavor, too. The dried-out crunchy parts on the outer edges of the rice blob ...
I can see why they need a big margin - with only eight tables they can't make it up in volume. But a meal that I'd have loved at $ 30 was not really good enough at $ 50. For now I'll have to stick to the Greek Taverna out in Hongqiao that has similar dishes, maybe not quite as tasty but they aren't such cheapskates. And the ambience is more friendly.
Oh. The place is too small to allow smoking and it's too cold to open the window. Don't know what you can do about that but if the person smoking had been next to us instead of across the room I'd have been pissed.
About the modern decor with Islamic touch, looks good but doesn't anyone think about acoustics when they decorate these places ? All those hard surfaces, the sound just bounces and bounces and bounces. And Chinese are not known for eating quietly. Screaming across the table is not very romantic. (For those who think they'll get laid after a nice exotic Turkish dinner )
Tastes good but ... could use some work, maybe. |

The night we went there we were seated in the corner near the doors to the veranda, there was a draft coming from somewhere and requested to move, sorry was the reply tables are fully booked.
I agree service is a bit hit n miss but The chicken Kebab was nice as was the humus starter with bread.
Beer and wines were a tad overpriced especially Tsingtao coming in at 38 a bottle, noticed that they sold Crown and VB too.
Decor is okay, but the multi coloured tiles on the wall were an eyesore to me. On the music side I expected some traditional sounds but instead got the usual stuff that's played in a bar.
We will probably return once the weather is warmer or they sort the heating out. Apart from that why can't somebody open a real greasy Donor kebab joint near the bar areas, they would make a killing.
Within an hour the place was packed, mainly with yanks who were much louder than the couple of locals that were there. |

There's one stuck in a little alley back in the lady market in Mongkok. Turkish guy and his two sons cook. Crowded. About 35 HKD for a paper plate overflowing with great tasting, tasty-spicy not just hot-spicy food. Really friendly, happy place. I asked the guy if he'd consider opening a place in Shanghai, he said, "No way."
Shit. Why does everything in this dump have to be "upscale" instead of "good" ? |
