F Visa for the trade show. Usually easiest is to have the trade show issue you the invitation letter. You will get a single entry 30 day stay F visa which will leave you ample time on your visa for tourism. Get the letter from the exposition center and then go online to Chinese consulate nearest where you live, download the application form and go from there. You will also need a few additional letters such as a letter from your company saying that your expenses are all covered, good character, purpose and length of stay required plus the fee which varies based on your nationality. Also will need a few photographs. Your passport will need to be valid for at least 6 months. Expect about 1 week to 10 days for the process. You can use an agent which is more convenient but much more expensive than do it yourself. From US visas cost $130 at this time.

Or....A whole lot less paperwork.

Tourist L Visa.
Documents needed...Application Form and (recently added) Health Declaration. (Just a form saying yuo have not been in Mexico really...)

No other documents needed....just fill it out like you are on holiday. Do not mention the trade show.

If you do not happen to live in a town where there is a Chinese Consulate you will need to use a Visa Agency. Mail in direct to the Consulate is not allowed.

For both personal and business travel for many years I have used CIBT.
Extremely reliable.
Just go on their website...answer a few questions and you can download all the appropriate forms. Senf the and your passport to the office they denote for your area...done.

Just got a Single Entry L last week. 30 day stay. Enter before December 17th

Not true for all countries. But that info you can probably find on the homepage of the Chinese Embassy in your country.

Else I would follow p1atl10's advice.

Defenitely no need for F-Visa. Its a common misunderstanding among some trade show visitors, they think they come for "business" and need a "business visa". Our company unfortunately has to deal with this on a daily basis. Even as an exhibitor, L-Visa is enough. Very straight forward process for most nationalities.
