Post subject: iPhone, removing Installers

My iPhone came with Ripdev Installer 4.1.2 and Cydia. Ripdev Installer has been discontinued as from July 1st, and instead the installer Icy has been recommended as replacement. I sucessfully uninstalled the applications from Ripdev, and reinstalled them with Icy. Now I only need to remove Ripdev Installer itself. This is where I get stuck, I don't seem to be able to do it.
Anybody who has experience with that?

TIA,
Andreas

Suggest backup the phone.
Do a clean upgrade to 3.0
Use Redsnow to jailbreak, check Cydia (and Activation if on 2g)
Restore backup.

If you are using a locked iPhone - eg US model, you will need to unlock.
Do that in Cydia with UltraSn0w
(Add repo666.ultrasn0w.com to the sources, then search for ultrasn0w)

Reboot, and you can use your phone.

I'd do that, so that you have a clean slate.

If you don't want to, then install OpenSSH

Open up FTP software, FTP to your Phone (use FTP overSSH settings)
user: root / pass: alpine
Navigate to /Applications and delete RipDev

My other posts have this in more detail.

Thanks for that. That are excellent suggestions. You are an amazing source of knowledge.
I will go through your other posts as well.
Cheers,
Andreas

Instead of Upgrading again for removing 1 single application, I would prefer using BossPrefs and hide the Icon.

I would still suggest a clean install.

Without knowing what he's at, its the best way to ensure he has a stable iPhone setup.
I have lots of experience with iPhones Smile

That said, its up to you what you do.
