Post subject: get on blocked websites?

hi!

i just moved to shanghai and found out i can't access some of my favorite websites from here. like danwei..is it always blocked? Sad
so..i tried to install a proxy but i did it wrong or its not sufficient?

what to do?

Didn't know Danwei was blocked, this might be recent.

For a long term solution you might consider paying for a VPN

Yeah right. We know what you're up to.

I just got Witopia yesterday. Sites like danwei (don't make me laugh) are accessible and download much quicker now. I had Hotspot Shield before. It lets you access banned sites, but the speed was crap, especially when all the US users log on, and it has annoying ads and redirects. Witopia was $60, no ads, faster.

MorTon, does firefox open sites that are blocked? I use firefox and its the same as my IE.

Not Firefox per se, but there are add-ons such as Tor which allow you to unblock sites.
