| Post subject: Slingbox suggestions |
Morning all,
I've just set up my Slingbox in the UK before I return to Shanghai. Having now read some posts on this forum, I have that sinking feeling that I may have wasted £105.
Is there anything I can do before I leave the UK that will help the Slingbox work better once I get back? I can get streaming speeds of 2300kbps currently in the UK on the wireless connection.
Would connecting in Shanghai via the LAN cable help with viewing?
Thanks,
Hamish |

Speeds depend on your upload connection. Always use a hard wired connection where ever possible.
Good luck with speeds in China. |

Why dont you ask the OP what it costs for a SKY UK HD subscription and the cost of the uploading ADSL? You will probably find it's around 65 Pounds per month or more.
I only offered advice on what the best connections are. Perhaps you can help out the OP with sling setup advice.
For the OP you should also use manual settings with the sling on 640 x 480, I Frames 3, Audio 32, Bitrate at 1000kps when you arrive in Shanghai. Adjust the manual settings until you have a stable stream. You need about 600kpbs for standard defitinition TV.
If you are using the HD then you need to change the settings for the HD input. You need to hookup both the composit and component cables to your slingbox from the SKY decoder.
HD streaming really requires a 1500 - 2000kpbs or better on remote speed to stream well. You can do it with less just perhaps get some pixelation.
If you need further setup help just drop me a line on skype blackcrusader.
I will be in Shanghai from 17 - 27 July. My China number 15818703161
Regards
Jim |

Sling can work. It works for me from the US. I have a box setup at my parents house who have a business account with a lot of bandwidth already, and here I have a 4M connection, it works alright and if the stars align I can even get some higher resolutions. The bigger problem is that they live in Chicago (13 hours behind us) so who the heck wants to watch whatever is on TV at those times? My solution has just been to quit watching TV. It actually solves a lot of problems. Good luck.
Oh yeah, it's been a while since I've used it, but I use Witpoia to get through the GFC. I've actually been surprised at the streaming speeds I get from Witopia... |

Yes it can work quite well if your upload speeds are high. One of my friends on this forum pays US$450pm for his internet in Shanghai and can stream above 1100kpbs.
I generally get from 1200 - 1800kpbs on my own slings in China |

Thanks for the replies, no doubt I'll be in contact again once I get back to Shanghai.
