| | | SBC became a fully licensed university college on September 1st, 2006, and was established as a joint venture formed by the cooperation between Northern Consortium United Kingdom (NCUK) and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. NCUK is a unique consortium of 11 British universities: University of Bradford, University of Huddersfield, University of Leeds, Leeds Metropolitan University, Liverpool University, Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester University, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford, University of Sheffield, and Sheffield Hallam University. At present, nine of these member universities (not including Manchester and Liverpool) are partners of SBC.
SBC is the only higher education institution to be awarded a licence to offer full degree programmes to multiple overseas universities (the so-called “1 to N Model”), either taught entirely at the Shanghai campus, or with a period of up to 2 years of study abroad.
