Kung Fu Fast Food - Take that!
By Mad About China
I am not exactly a fan of fast food restaurants. However, one chain I do not mind visiting is Kung Fu Fast Food. Contrary to the typical fast food chain, the food they serve is actually quite healthy. Most of the items on the menu are steamed and not too bad in taste as well. They even guarantee the nutritional value of every serving.
In case you cant read Chinese and wondering why the chain is called Kung Fu Fast Food, the name actually is a play on the Mandarin word for "steam power". "Steam Power" and "real Kung Fu" sound almost the same. And in this case, who better to represent Kung Fu than Bruce Lee ? And thus, the Bruce Lee mascot.
Due to the popularity of the last post on this chain two years ago, I decided to post an update and paid the restaurant a visit, the branch at Nanjing Road. Intending to take some pictures for our readers, I started to take some pictures of the restaurant just at the entrance. Thinking that I could be someone from the press or from some agency conducting spot checks (I was using a DSLR then!) and possibly writing something negative about the restaurant, a branch manager quickly came and prohibited me from taking more pictures. After assuring him that I am just a customer, he finally relented and let me order my food.
I ordered a set meal. The prices , I feel are very reasonable. For RMB30, my set meal came with steamed broccoli, pork ribs with herbs and a set of steam eggs. I got a free calendar too :)
While tucking into my meal, I could sense the store manager scrutinising my every movement just in case I turn out to be a reporter. I felt like a spy and of all places in a fast food restuarant. :P
