20“ container from Shanghai to London

Postby Herr_Maier » Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:35 pm

I might need to relocate from Shanghai to London soon. Does anybody has an idea how much a 20” container cost? Including packing, handling and so on. Thanks for help.

You need a 20 footer for your stuff? You have that much to move? For a normal 20' container for export purposes ball park figure is something like 1000usd + 200usd BAF. That's ball park. Then you add on local costs such as stuffing of the container (where is it to be stuffed?). Paperwork. Do you have wood material? Dangerous goods, etc, etc, etc

Think your logistical problem is a bit more than the cost of a container. There are all sorts of issues related to customs, etc which will be a nightmare to handle by yourself.

Suggest you contact someone like Santa Fe or Crown or the like.

I'm just going through this exercise.. door-to-door service (excl insurance) will be around 50,000-70,000 RMB. This is with packing etc and a full 20 feet container. Exact amount will of course depend on your destination (I don't move to London but to a very remote place that is difficult to access, so your move might be a bit cheaper).

Beyond the correct symbol for feet ("), perhaps you're missing some other element(s) of your requirements. Even in feet, wouldn't the height, width and length all determine your cost?

^containers are standard sizes

If you can be bothered with the hassle, its cheaper to buy the container and split your transportation costs. Use the services of a company in China to ship it to the UK and use a company in the UK to deal with customs and transportation by road to your required destination. After that, sell the container.

I appreciate everybody’s comments. Nevertheless, don’t bash on me, not knowing all details of international container shipment. If I would know everything already, I would not ask in a forum.
I have about 30m³ with less than 2 tons.

you should be able to take your 20" container as carryon luggage on your flight.

20' Container could do about 20 tons legally but only offers 17cbm. From Shanghai to UK port should be about USD 2000 but the inland freight is horrendous. Almost another USD 1000. Turnaround time would be about 30 days door to door.

All the best.

a 20' they would notice, but not 20". It would fit in well with all those boxes of fruit and bags of yoghurt and milk.
