2nd hand books : Now at Epicvre Nanchang Lu

Postby Pierrro » Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:13 am

Our second Partner is on !!!!!

After Bell Bar (http://www.bellbar.cn) in december, Ecicvre (French Wine Bar) has now agreed to expose / sell / exchange French and English books in their shop on 116 Nanchang Lu.

Come visit and browse the books over a glass of wine... You're welcome read the books while you are in the shop... Of course you need to pay if you wish to take some with you :)

400 books to the pile now : Bellow are 4 updated lists to make it a little bit simpler...

==> List of the books available at Bell Cafe (all in English)
==> List of the books available at Epicvre Nanchang Lu (English - French)
==> List of the English books available (at my place... PM me if you are interested in any)
==> List of the French books available (at my place... PM me if you are interested in any).

Donation is still very much appreciated... Might be a good omen to do a donnation and contribution to red cross before the year of the Ox ???

Cheers

Thought it might be usefull to remind the rules of engagement for those who are not familiar with the club

==> All books are sold for 20 Rmb
==> All books sold will be bought back for 10 Rmb if brought back in a good condition withing 3 months to the sells.
==> I'll be exchanging (2 for 1) or buying (10 Rmb) books to people interested. However I'll be somewhat selective as wish to limit the working capital of the small "enterprise" to a reasonable number...
==> Donation are of course always welcome... It's for a good cause :-)

This venture is not to make money, but really to share love of books and build a buzz of second handbooks trading around Shanghai...ALL PROCEED ARE GIVEN TO CHARITY (USUALLY RED CROSS)...

It seems that some person have difficulties to open the attached file, as it saves as 2ndhandbooks.php instead of 2ndhandbooks.zip.

What you need to do if it happens is to open the file "As" Zip file... You should then be able to extract the Excell files.

Mr IT Adminisrtator... Any Idea why this happens and how to solve it ????

Cheers

Update booklist.... Got a few new ones recently which I strongly recommend

Jurrasic Park(Michael Crichton) (superb hard cover edition) or Promise me (Harlan Coben) for those who like thrillers

Oliver Twist (Mark Twain), les Miserables (Victor Hugo) to perfect your classics.

Lords of the rings / The Hobbit if you are into fantasy

An finally two personal recommendation Stamboul Train from Graham Green & Tortilla Flat from John Steinbeck... Two of my favorite Authors !!!

And don't forget Saturday 21st February : Book Swapping at the Saturday Coffee meet in Cloud nine Mall...

Have a good read

Happy Valentines books... About love or Getting rid of a lover :-)

Getting Rid of Matthew by Jane Fallon : Available at Bell Cafe on Taikang Lu

Helen is nearly 40, and has, for far too long, had an affair with Matthew, a high-powered, much older, attractive, married man who was once, of course, her boss. After years of being disappointed by missed dates, out-of-the-way restaurants, broken promises, and hushed phone calls, at last Helen realizes it's time to dump Matthew and get on with her life.

This, of course, is the exact moment when Matthew decides to leave his wife for her. He appears on her doorstep and proceeds to move in. Helen then discovers how much she can't bear him. But she can't just throw him out - after all, she's been begging him to do exactly this for years. The only thing to do, she decides, is to convince his wife, Sophie, to take him back.

Hi Pierro

Thanks for the heads-up about the 2nd hand books. I ducked into Epicure today to check them out and found a promising thriller trash read... I believe previously owned by yu888 8)

Picked up some good lookin jam and syrup while I was there too.

Btw, if you know the owner, tell her/him thumbs up for one of her/his staff - Cary, very friendly and helpful.

I'll be sure to grab a cake and tea at Bell Cafe soon while I check out the selection of books.

Also, in case you get as much of a kick out of it as I do, check out Shelfari http://www.shelfari.com/ as one possible way to organise the list of books on your list ... easily accessible for everyone to look out for new books etc. (Sample random user's shelf: http://www.shelfari.com/lenni/shelf )

Cheers.

Thanks for forwarding the message :)

Checked out the shelves at Cafe Bell yesterday and was chuffed to find To Kill a Mockingbird. I have fond memories of this book from my teenage years. Looking forward to reading it again in the near future.

Also, it occurred to me that it would be quite a bit of a pain for you to organise a Shelfari shelf for your long list of books (and, as far as I can tell, they have yet to set up sorting by genre). Have you considered using Google docs?

Upload your spreadsheet and under 'Share' options, select 'Publish as a web page'. Then set up automatic updates whenever you make changes to the list.

So, people won't have to download attachments... just point them to a URL for the latest list.

E.g. this test sheet I set up. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... iH43O-xROg

Anyhoo, thanks again for the books-that-contribute-to-a-good-cause and I hope you find a solution for managing the list.

Cheers!

Hey Leahlah,

Thanks for your encouragements.

Next book swapping session should be either 14th of March or 21st... Not fully decided yet as I need to finalize my biz travel plans first (work comes first unfortunately :-( )...

I also need to check with the Bosssss (aka Ed) if he's ok with the date... I'll let you know in a few days.

Finaly, if Bookswapping date is not convinient for you, I'd be also happy to meet over coffee / Beer or just at a subway station (close to French concession if possible) evening over the week-end to get/exchange books.

Cheers :-)

Hi Everyone! My name is John and I have a nephew in Shanghai who loves to read. He is interested in anything written by Douglas Adams, like Restaurant at the end of the universe etc. I was going to send him a box from Perth (in Western Australia) then came across this site. I have heaps of childrens books, plays etc to exchange or whatever! Cheers
