32GB USB Key

Postby Selesti » Wed Oct 17, 2007 3:00 pm

Has anybody bought and successfully used the 32GB USB Keys?

I saw a ton of stores hawking them while I was wandering around the market in Science Technology Museum Subway Station. However, I was a bit skeptical as it seems a bit too good to be true!

how much???

i highly doubt those are for real. flash tech at those capacities are really expensive... a 32GB flash goes for $750 in the states:

$750 is more than all the merchandise down in the sci museum market is worth.

nonetheless, pretty interesting. as these drive prices go down, you can expect higher capacity mp3 players and mp3/phones, i.e. iphone. just not worth it at $750 for 32gb though.

I bought two 16 GB flash / jump sticks that ran about $150 USD each a while back - total crap and came conveniently with viruses embedded.

here's a tip: if it's cheaper than what u can get in the U.S., it's almost certainly fake or defective.

I still have one that's only 32 MB from a few years ago! 1/1000 of today's top capacity.

a bit off topic, but i wonder we will EVER see a cpu that has 1 TB of L1 cache?

i'm guessing design technology will evolve so it wont ever come to that.

The 32GB USB sticks are classified as "Data Safes" as they do not have 32GBs of data storage. What they do have is 4GB and use data compression to allow you save 32GBs of data on to the device.

They have slow data rates as there is a need to compress/decompress data on and off the device. I tested one brand and I couldnt listen to mp3s saved onto the device directly. You would have to copy the mp3 off the device onto your laptop hard drive to listen to it.

The device is fine for backing up your data, but cant really be used as I use my 4GB Scandisk USB memory stick. Waiting for the 8GB one for my Christmas present.

mr. happy, are you saying the ones at the new xiangyang are data safes? or are you saying the 32gb flashes on tiger direct and other sites data safes as well?

not like i'd ever get one at those prices. imagine losing one of those. 32GB of data gone, as well as $750.

I should imagine that you could by a 32GB memory stick, but I havnt seen them in China or any thing over 8GB in the UK. For $750 US you could buy 10 * 100GB portable hard drives or even a new top of the range laptop with 160GB HD. Thus solving your laptops HD size problem in the firstplace.

The 32GB memory stick I tested was a memory safe, it could hold 32GB of MP3s I loaded onto it, it was slow like USB 1 speed. I couldnt listen to the mp3s directly from device as the decompression was so slow it could not be done in real time.

For 425rmb you can get a 4GB memory stick, so for 1000rmb you should be able to pick up a 8GB. But again I picked up a 320GB Maxtor external HD for the office at 850rmb.

I would like a 8-16GB memory stick to save my bittorents as they download, so I am not shagging my PCs hard drive every 12 months!

I am looking for a 8-16GB flash drive for my Creative Zen MP3 player as the 1inch HD in it is sticking. Anybody know where I can get a Transend Type 1 flash drive of 8GB and how much.

^ Yep.... unless you're ultra rich, then you can just chuck external drives every 12 - 18 months. ;)

They sell fake sony 32 gb and below usb sticks, that is why you are seeing them so cheap. I asked about these and they said that it is much slower than the real one. The final price i was given was 120 rmb. So basically I conclude that they are ****.

those fake 32gb ones used to be the fake 4gb ones... they are just old 64mb or 128mb sticks dumped in to plastic shells that look real, and when you plug them in to a computer they register as 32gb and will seem to save files. When in reality anything over 64mb just seems to be copying but really is just fooling the system
