4000 RMB for 4 beers and 15 shots?

We 3 friends somehow landed up in some kind of shady karaoke in nanjing lu...and the biggest mistake we did ordered drinks without checking out the menu.......we got the bill of RMB 7500 for 4 local beer and some Royal.....whiskey. We got a shock of our lives and took it strongly with the manager......we got discounts after every argument but finally ended up paying RMB4000/- i have no doubt the we were cheated........has anyone experianced the same in shanghai?

It's a classic ripoff. Back in Hong Kong (Wanchai) it was the same. They would price a beer at the normal price of 25 - 30 HKD, and it would also be on the price list. The shooters and cocktail would not be on the price list, and they would try to charge you 400 a piece. In the places you don't know, ask the price for every drink in advance, and pay after every round. Some of those joints keep tabs and write with a fork.

The Royal could've been very expensive. Clubs usually charge 800 RMB for a bottle of Chivas and 4 bottles of green tea.

He he, many people go into karaoke bars without checking the price. Som of them charges you 500,- an hour for the room, which is pretty normal here. If you think this is a reipoff try and go to Pat Pong in Thailand, there it would have been in USD instead and no help from the police!

^ ha! when I was there someone tried to rip me off in some shady joint... I just left. If anyone would have tried to stop me it would have been real trouble -- probably for both of us

If someone tried a similar trick here I'd also take the exit. F*ck them -- I have no sympathy for people that try to steal from me.
